Nick Drake Box Set 'Fruit Tree' To Be Released

UME/Fontana will release an updated version of the legendary Nick Drake box set Fruit Tree. Originally released in 1979, Fruit Tree has been out of print for seven years. In addition to all three of Nick Drake’s classic studio albums - Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter and Pink Moon, this one time only, limited edition pressing (8,000 copies) of Fruit Tree includes, on DVD for the first time, the Nick Drake biographical film “A Skin Too Few”, and a new 108-page book. The book includes comprehensive lyric sheets, exclusive interviews with Nick’s producer Joe Boyd and engineer John Wood who discuss each song Nick recorded under their auspices, a song-by-song musical breakdown and history by Robin Frederick and the original sleevenotes by Arthur Lubow. The sleeves feature replicas of the original Fruit Tree artwork.

Additionally, a limited quantity of the set (2,000 units) will be available on premium vinyl. This vinyl set, which includes the DVD and book, is also a one-time run only. The upgraded reissue gives fans old and new the opportunity to buy Nick’s three classic studio albums in one set at a decent price and will be a welcome addition for collectors.

YIKES. Really? I just placed an order with CD Universe, and I HAVE to have that DVD.

CD Universe has got to be wrong. Time of No Reply was part of the most recent version of the Fruit Tree box, but has been replaced by Made to Love Magic as the official unreleased/outtakes collection. I don't think they would reissue Time of No Reply just for this box.

Besides, this appears to mimic the first edition of Fruit Tree (the artwork certainly does), which only had the three original albums.

CDU is still using the description of the old box set, with 4 CDs and no DVD. Their other info matches the new one ~ the new cover art and UPC ~ so I'm sure what you ordered is the correct version. (The old one isn't even available new, anyway.)

Got my copy of Fruit Tree yesterday. Despite the dent in the edge of the box (thanks, CD Universe), it's gorgeous. Haven't played the DVD yet, but maybe tonight. The sleeves on the albums are really nice, and the whole package is beautifully done. OK, I already had multiple copies of these albums, but the packaging and the DVD make it worthwhile for me. (OK, I'd buy almost anything that has to do with Nick Drake.) Haven't compared the CDs to the individual remastered versions, but the few cuts I listened to sounded great. Also can't wait to dig in to the booklet; it's pretty thick.
