http://www.warrenzevon.com says that Rhino will be re-issuing WZ's first album with bonus tracks. As far as I could tell, there was no release date listed though.

They might have meant Rhino UK, Bill. So far it's only listed as a British import.

That would be a bummer. I'll keep checking on the site, and if they post any more info I'll let you know.

It's definitely coming here as well. The official site has been teasing it on the home page for a few months now. The vinyl version (sans any bonus material, I think) is coming out next Tuesday (9/9). Also, before the official site's bulletin board crashed his son, Jordan, mentioned this was coming. But, like the site says (or doesn't say), no date listed. Hopefully, it'll be released the same week as the UK version.

Here's the new vinyl version (which has been pushed back to October 21st, BTW). No bonus tracks, as you said:

Amazon.com essential recording
Two years before "Werewolves of London" became his sole big hit and something of an albatross, [title]Warren Zevon[/title] stood at the artier end of L.A. singer-songwriter rock. Fueled by a love for the Stones and Ross MacDonald, Zevon turned his Asylum Records debut (produced by buddy Jackson Browne) into one of the ultimate statements of Southern California pop. The songs range from commanding, funny takes on American West mythos ("Frank and Jesse James") to pained, funny views of sexual politics ("Poor Poor Pitiful Me") and existential drama (most of the other songs). Anyone who cherishes Hotel California needs this album, too.

Product Description
Mastered from the original analog master tapes. Features all original packaging.

1. Frank and Jesse James
2. Mama Couldn't Be Persuaded
3. Backs Turned Looking Down the Path
4. Hasten Down the Wind
5. Poor, Poor Pitiful Me
6. French Inhaler
7. Mohammed's Radio
8. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
9. Carmelita
10. Join Me in L.A.
11. Desperados Under the Eaves

Cool news-but I don't need a 2CD remaster. I'll get it anyway-hopefully from my friend at Rhino, but if not, I'm still on board. Also, to clarify, this is not Warren's debut album. When I saw the post I was wondering why the hell Rhino would remaster "Wanted- Dead Or Alive" which was Warren's rather inauspicious debut in 1969 and sucks out loud.
This remaster is of course the self titled album from 1976. I know this is his debut to most, but I really thought it was the other album when I saw the post and was very relieved to see it is indeed "Warren Zevon".
Now, will they please remaster "Bad Luck Streak In Dancing School"???? Please???

Bummer that BMG Club no longer does WEA. I got the last batch of Zevons from them.

I have a Japanese issued disc that I picked up before EMI began releasing WZ's records on cd, and it sounds terrific. I don't think there's any reason for me to pick this up unless there are bonus tracks.

Great news, the 2-CD Collector's Edition will be coming out via Rhino as a domestic release on November 11th. :) I've added pre-order details to the first post.

I love how every other label bites off the Universal Deluxe Edition packaging style...

Speaking of which, I have a small gripe with that Universal Dekuxe packaging style. The modified slipcase protects the front and back of the package, but not the edge where the title is. Just seems a bit odd to me.

Let's just say this was the first Warren Zevon album that Warren Zevon didn't specifically disavow. My understanding of Wanted is that it was recorded as a demo to promote the songs and released without his approval. Am I wrong on this?

And as much as I love his entire body of work, I don't think he ever topped this S/T sort-of-debut. Count me in.

I could make an argument for "Excitable Boy", "My Ride's Here", and possibly "Life'll Kill Ya", with an sentimental nod to "The Wind". Personally, I'm also very, very fond of "Learning To Flinch" - it really exposes the quality of the songs, with no reliance on a band or production to put them over. That said, some better quality recordings of some of the songs, especially the instrument/vocal balance, would have been nice. When I first got EB, I thought it must have been a greatest hits album because of how many classic songs are on there.

I was lucky enough to see WZ twice, both solo acoustic shows. Once opening for Chicago (my date and my buddy's date both thought he was horrible - my buddy and I were in awe), the other as a headliner in a small club. I met his ex-wife at a book signing in Boulder, CO last year, too - if you haven't read the book, it's worth it.
