UME has teamed up with a few labels to do a series of albums entitled Number Ones in the same vein as the Stevie Wonder collection that was being discussed here recently. Here's what's been released:

Jackson 5 "The Jackson 5 Story: Number Ones" (Hip-O)

Kool & The Gang "Number Ones" (Mercury/UME)

Loretta Lynn "Number Ones" (MCA Nashville)

Conway Twitty "Number Ones" (MCA Nashville)

Various Artists (all on Hip-O):
"Classic Disco: Number Ones"
"Classic Rock: Number Ones"
"Hard Rock: Number Ones"
"Modern Rock: Number Ones"

In my opinion, all of these releases are terrible and not worth buying.

My reason is simple: these are all packaged in those useless eco-packs. No liner notes, no nothing.

Yet these list for the same price as a "normal" CD, one that comes in a jewel box and includes a booklet with liner notes.

To add insult to injury, all of the "Number Ones" CDs I've seen have the numeral "1" cut out of the cover.

If I were in charge of everything, all people would be forbidden from buying these discs.

Special dispensation would be granted only to Jimbo and others of his ilk, individuals who are well-known for wanting to collect each and every CD ever made. :)

(Come to think of it, if I were in charge of everything, my energy would be better spent making it so that this kind of packaging would never have been created in the first place... )

I have the Stevie Wonder version. I don't like how the first few songs sound ( a little to shrill for me) but from Supersition on, the CD sounds fine (as heard in my wife's mini-van). She loves Stevie so she's happy with this nice little overview of Stevie Wonder's hits.

We need more "right-thinking" individuals like this. Especially at the major labels. :ohyes:
