Cole and the Commotions’ debut album Rattlesnakes (1984) rightly won the singer-songwriter a coveted place in the NME’s Top 100 albums of all time. It established him as one of the most articulate and acute songwriters of the post-punk era. The follow up, Easy Pieces spent 9 weeks in the UK charts, peaking at number 9. In 1990 the Commotions disbanded and Lloyd relocated to New York to release a series of critically acclaimed albums with reviewers suggesting that he had reached his ‘creative peak’. They all graced both the albums and singles charts. What a disservice to these guys, comparing them to The Smiths. I never thought they sounded anything alike.

I can't wait to pick these up. I'm a huge fan of both his Commotions and solo periods. In fact, I'm one of the few people who prefers his solo records.
