>> 2007 release from Squeeze singer/songwriter Glenn Tilbrook. The Past Has Been Bottled features Glenn's original demos for songs that would eventually become Squeeze's masterpiece, East Side Story. 18 tracks including four previously unreleased Difford & Tilbrook-penned songs: 'Depression', 'I Don't Like Love', 'Misunderstanding' and 'Holiday Makers'. The artwork humorously features the older and wiser 2007 version of Glenn recreating his slightly off-kilter stance from the East Side Story cover. Quixotic. <<

I have listened to "The Past Has Been Bottled" several times through, and while it's mostly interesting, particularly the non-album tunes, there is nothing really revelatory and it's not something I will keep in steady rotation. The demo's are in various stages of development, but the ones with synth-driven rhythm tracks kind of grate on the ear. The few consisting solely of acoustic guitars are the most enjoyable, but even these just make you wish you were listening to the album proper. Good for the look into the songwriter's process, but mostly non-essential, even for die-hard completists.
