Am I correct in noticing that there seems to be nothing from Then Play On on this set? I see no "Oh Well", "Rattlesnake Shake" or "Green Manalishi". I'm hoping for some kind of Deluxe Edition version of it-even if it ends up being only an import.
That being said, for those of you who don't have the inclination to take the chance on the Blue Horizons Sessions box set (even though it is usually found at a wonderful low price), I am highly encouraging people who don't know of this earliest incarnation of the Mac to take the plunge and get this set. With my usual sense of exaggerrated enthusiasm, I'll say that you haven't lived a full life until you've been exposed to the Peter Green-Era Fleetwood Mac. It's marvelous stuff.

Know what I'd love to see? This will never happen ~ an Essential set of the Kirwan and Welch years.

"Green Manalishi" came to Peter Green in a nightmare.

I noticed this too. I have been very happy with the Columbia import "The Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac."

Of course if you want to go for the box set, that's good too.

We can hope that it happens. The release of the "Madison Blues" set a couple of years ago was a good first step towards releasing what I wish would be a bunch of material from the post-Green, pre-Buckingham/Nicks Mac.I know the group was constantly on the road, so there should be more live stuff. We can also hope for a remastering of the albums "Then Play On" right through "Heroes Are Hard to Find"

Well, we can hope, can't we?

I'm with Linda about the Kirwan and Welch years. The Peter Green stuff is great, no question, but the post-Green, pre-Buckingham/Nicks material is unjustly overlooked.

Not being one to wait for the labels to take action, i'd put together a 3-cd set only on Danny Kirwan, which contains every song he either wrote or co-wrote with Fleetwood Mac up through the post-Green albums he was on. It turned out to be quite a set of great songs, IMO.

As for a comprehensive "best of" from Kiln House through "Heroes", at least a double (and more truly a triple) cd set would be required to really do it right.

Hi Linda,
I'd like to see that as well. I've always been scared to get the immediate post-Green stuff because I've always been worried about how good the CDs would sound.

This is a good collection, but without the aforementioned "Oh Well" and "Green Manalishi" a large part of the story is missing.
Federico mentioned "The Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac"-I think that's a better place to start. It has the 2 previously named tracks, plus "Rattlesnake Shake". I think that anyone to whom this stuff is new will want much more after hearing this.
