Some websites are reporting a June 5 release from Rhino of a remastered SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER soundtrack; retail seems to be around $19.98. Has anybody heard any news if this will be the rumored deluxe edition a la their recent box set? (The price seems a bit low if this is a 2-disc set, and I think the album itself would take up much of one CD.) I hope our friends at Rhino don't drop the ball on this one!

Edited thread title to reflect new release date. ~ Linda

I am hoping for the unreleased David Shire instrumentals, "Disco Duck", and the promo only Bee Gee's extended versions to be on Disc 2...

I haven't heard if this particular version is part of Andrew Sandoval's handling of their catalog or not. It would be nice to get a clarification on this. I'm hesitant to plink down for a pre-order without having this information.

I had heard that the next Bee Gees reissues are the SNF soundtrack plus Odessa. I'm thinking the SNF release will be a deluxe edition but not part of the catalog reissues.

I remember buying the remastered SNF soundtrack a few years ago and being a little upset that the studio version of "Jive Talkin" was used instead of the live version I had on my old album(s)

Steve:

I did some reserach and the B2B (business to business) site for WEA (they distribute the CD) shows this as a straight reiussue. No remastering or bonus tracks.

UMD (Universal) had cut this title out a while ago but had plenty of stock on it to cover orders for most of the accounts.

The label is listed as Reprise for the reissue.

I remember reading about this in an old ICE Magazine back in the day, I think around 1995.

Anyway, the first pressings of the LP had the studio version of "Jive Talkin'." Subsequent pressings used the live version for some reason, so having the studio version on there is correct, even if it isn't the version you grew up with. Sorry.

ok. Nice to know anyway. I was 9 at the time, so I think my folks gave it to me at Christmas. I'm assuming it originally came out earlier that summer?

Not a big deal about the live version....it's just what I was used to hearing.

Sometimes record companies changed things or just had the wrong tapes lying around when it came to second and third pressings of LPs. I believe the SNF soundtrack came out in late 1977, as the movie was released for the Christmas season

Why the heck would they have put a live version on a soundtrack to a movie about a disco in the first place? That strikes me as odd...

No bonus tracks? How about the Bee Gee's version of "If I Can't Have You," b-side of "Stayin' Alive"? Or some of the promo 12" mixes (as mentioned above)?

They're saving it for the "deluxe edition."

I think my original CD version is fine. Pass.
