>> Throughout life, certain occasions or opportunities arise that have an effect on you and change your path - this is exactly what happened to Tom Middleton when Snow Patrol asked him to DJ at one of their gigs. Tom agreed to the gig but seized the opportunity to deliver an alternative to his weekly peak-time club sets and insisted on playing nothing but cover versions. Inspired and overwhelmed by simply how amazing the crowd reaction was, he decided to do some sonic-exploration… Through his productions, remixes and legendary DJ sets, Tom has travelled to the farthest corners of sound. His recordings as AMBA, Cosmos, Global Communication and The Jedi Knights (alongside Mark Pritchard) have consistently broken new ground in electronic music, and set the standard that others rarely reach. A devoted Cover Lover since 2004’s highly praised The Trip compilation, which featured the much-requested Hindi/ Bollywood Disco version of Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough. Crazy Covers Vol.1 followed in 2005 but Tom doesn’t stop digging deeper for the ultimate versions. "It was important that this compilation not only did justice to the first one but exceeded it in terms of variety." Explains the Jedi. "I now have well over three hundred magic cover versions and I’m still hunting for more. With the ipod shuffle world we now live in, I thought the best way to promote them was to hand pick 40 split across two CD’s. Disc 1 - PARTY is a proper, proper party selection; the second -BEAUTIFUL features subtler, timeless beauties. They each have character and personality, taking the original songs to new levels all together. I love the Marmite effect playing a covers comp causes, it’s a matter of personal taste whether your pro covers or originals but it certainly makes for an amusing and often heated conversation! " It’s a genius selection that underlines Tom’s talent for delivering the unexpected. Where Vol.1 scratched a fruitful surface, Vol.2 has uncovered the treasure. Whether it’s William Shatner doing Pulp, a bluegrass version of Prince’s ‘Alphabet St’ or Shawn Lee’s magnificent Ping Pong Orchestra tackling ‘Get UR Freak On’ in the style of a Tarantino Surf Rock band, it’s safe to say you’re gonna hear something new! With Mark Ronson’s latest album ‘Version’ topping the charts and winning him the accolade of Producer of the Year, it’s not unthinkable that this could be the Compilation of the Year. <<
