On its original release in 1972, Cat Stevens’ fourth LP on Island/A&M, ‘Catch Bull At Four,’ spent three weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200, making it his biggest album of all time.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Island Records / UMe will reissue a newly remastered version of ‘Catch Bull At Four’ on December 2nd 2022. Presented on CD featuring a new 20 page booklet featuring lyrics and photos.

No news yet. In fact, the UK pressings that were briefly pre-orderable have vanished. So there might be a change of release date, but it's coming.

Well, this whole project collapsed in on itself.

Universal has decided to issue only a "50th Anniversary Edition", now coming out on December 2nd, and the CD will simply be one remastered disc in enhanced packaging, and with no bonus tracks. There will be no Super Deluxe Edition.

The Amazon USA pre-order link in the first post should become active soon. The CD is already available at Amazon UK:

Boo and hiss. I was so looking forward to a super deluxe edition of this album. There's no way that I'm going to spring for a straight remaster/reissue.

My dad owned this album when I was growing up, and he played often. I was looking forward to getting a deluxe edition of this.

I feel a little cheated.

I'm disappointed, too. Unfortunately, it's probably just a matter of there not being enough previously unreleased material from the sessions to warrant an expanded release. The same is probably true of live material from that particular time. Bummer.

Maybe, but I wonder why it was initially advertised as a deluxe version if they never had enough material to fill multiple discs. It seems like this was pulled at the last minute for some other reason. I enjoyed the first three albums in their multi-disc versions and was looking forward to this one. I won't buy the straight reissue.

Maybe it was pulled because the other boxes haven't sold that well.

Hmmm...I don't recall that it was ever advertised as a "deluxe edition". 50th anniversary, yes. Maybe I missed that.
