when i really think about, why shouldn't mickey thomas do an album of steve perry covers, he tried to sound like perry for years when he was singing with starship and now, there is another band out there doing the same thing he is doing and making big money at it, with a singer that doesn't sound as much like perry as he does.

I NEVER thought Mickey Thomas tried to sound like Steve Perry. Their voices are distinct.

Mickey has sounded like himself ever since I first heard him in 1976 with Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around And Fell In Love".

every so often i do hear a resemblance in the 2, and alex litgerwood can sound like perry at times too.

To me, Alex Ligertwood sounded like Steve Winwood.

I suppose you’re going to say next that Lou Gramm sometimes sounds like Steve Perry.

But Kelly Hansen sometimes sounds like Lou Gramm doing a Steve Perry impersonation.

It was rumored around 84-85 that Mickey Thomas was going to replace Steve Perry in Journey.

Mickey Thomas saved the group from permanent obscurity.

If my suspicions are correct, this is a CD that was previously released on Purple Pyramid/Cleopatra with a different title and cover. And if that is the case, I don't know why the whole thing is just credited to Mickey Thomas. He's just on the opening track, but it's more of a various artists type thing.

I don't know about that. He was part of Starship who by most counts are responsible for the worst song of all time, "We Built This City" Also, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" is also widely panned. Maybe they would have preferred obscurity to those honors. I'm not crazy about either of those 2 songs, myself. I prefer the Jefferson Starship's "Red Octopus" "Spitfire" and "Earth" albums. Of course just my humble opinion.
