If you're not nice
What would summer be without another Beach Boys compilation? The packshot in the first post tells the story -- this looks like a beautifully expanded package with plenty of new remastering and mixing to make it a worthwhile pickup. The Amazon pre-order links should be active by tomorrow.

It's nice to see some songs that deserve inclusion that are not normally included, but there's also some odd additions and with three discs, it still largely ignores 85 onward.

That's fine with me, they released nothing essential during that period. (I own all their albums including the four post-'85 ones, and I can't think of anything worthy of knocking a pre-'85 track off of a three disc set.)

always room for a new beach boys comp........
It's needed. And it's a good way to begin the 60th anniversary series of expansions, which are very needed.
may i respectfully ask you why you feel another beach boys comp is necessary, i'm guessing that it now has to be at lest double the amount of comps to the albums they released.
they are pushing the doors, and that is very rare air to be breathing.

Sure.
I would say that any upgrade justifies a release. In the case of this 3CD set, it's 80 new remasters, 24 new mixes, 2 first-time stereo. This brings a lot of value for Beach Boys collectors (myself included).
In addition, Sounds Of Summer has been a perennial seller for non-collectors but only contained 30 tracks on 1CD. Expanding it to a 3CD set with 80 tracks offers so many more classics for the casual listener for whom 30 tracks isn't enough, but getting the entire catalogue would be too much.
And I personally love when they use vintage label designs (here they're using what appeared on Beach Boys albums in the '60s and '70s) because it just makes the release look like it's been put together with care and respect.

Hahahaha I know there's not much interest in vinyl round these parts, but I've got my pre-order in
Damn you DanO. Linda gave a convincing argument for the CD set (which I was probably going to buy anyhow), but now you have me desiring the records too.

appreciate it!
i'm a fan, but not a huge fan, i do own the box set and very nice 2-CD set of the hits. i don't think i ever owned one album by them other than 'pet sounds'.
