Fab News! RCA/Legacy Recordings has discovered a mind-bending gem from deep within Jefferson Airplane's paisley-wallpapered recording vaults.

Summer of Love trailblazers Jefferson Airplane played 2 spellbinding evenings at NYC's much revered Fillmore East in November 1969-and everything was caught on tape! A stunningly accurate, remastered recording of the Airplane at the peak of its magical powers will be released on CD by RCA/Legacy Recordings in 2007!

Here's the frosting on the brownie! If you (or any of your friends) were
lucky enough to attend those shows-on Nov 26, 28 or 29, 1969 - and
photographed the band, you may have hit the jackpot! RCA/Legacy will print the best photos and dog-eared memorabilia from the shows (ticket stubs, posters, flyers) in the CD booklet. Dig through that scrapbook, then send us your best snapshots and souvenirs and you may win the entire Jefferson Airplane catalog for FREE.

Sounds like a treat! I am just curious how much the track list and performances might resemble the 1998 "Live at the Fillmore East" cd, which was from 2 nights in May of 1968. Well, i'm sure i will gladly pay to find out.

There was no deadline posted this morning. That's a good question though.

Musictap reported that this is due to come out on February 13th with the full title of Sweeping The Spotlight: Jefferson Airplane Live at the Fillmore East 1969. People must have swamped Legacy with photos, etc., right away. I'm really surprised they are releasing this title so soon. I'm quite happy about it.

On a somewhat related note...

Do any of you Airplane followers know any details about this release?

I wonder if that's the full concert. I know there were a lot of acts at Monterey, so perhaps they played shorter sets. I've got the Monterey box set and that sounds fine, but then again, that was a Rhino release.

I saw it and became a little wary of it. It may be a quasi-bootleg release. With the pending release of the Fillmore East show on Legacy, I'm sure it's going to get overshadowed.

I see that CD Universe has Sweeping the Spotlight as a pre-sale item with a February 13 release date. Pre-sale price is $8.39.

That looks suspiciously like the many previously released lowish quality boots or European semi boots out there.

Did anyone else get a notice from cduniverse that Sweeping Up the Spotlight was "discontinued?"

That's weird, I haven't noticed anything like that. If I don't see anything in the next few days, I'll have to get a hold of them.

I did get the notice saying that it was discontinued. I'm going to cancel the order and use it as a credit for another pre-order I'm about to do. I'm not happy that it appears that this isn't coming out.
