Acoustic Sounds has announced new SACDS in its new catalogue for 2018 of the following titles:

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? and Axis: Bold As Love (US versions, Mono and Stereo mixes)

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here (stereo and 5.1 surround mixes)

Bernie Grundman who is and has done the mastering for the Hendrix issues. Question I have, are these fresh re-masters or previous work but now transferred to SACD.

Either case I am extremely delighted to see Jimi's studio stuff on SACD.

Oh my fucking god. Jimi core catalog on APO? I will sell my first born to get these. I do hope they put the numerous "bonus" trax (i.e. singles & early UK alternate releases) related to AYE on the SACD. They've been on the last couple generations of cd.

There are already so many quality masterings of hi-res versions of both Floyd's on disc, I don't quite get why bother?

Bad news: AYE is only going to include the original USA 11 tracks. Good news: both will be mono And stereo (SACD).

Supposedly, the Mono vinyl editions of these are already sold out.

Per Acoustic Sounds, these have been pushed back to "late summer" GRR.

Except for reissues of pre-existing '70s quadraphonic titles on SACD, the audiophile labels have all but given up on multichannel. Whether that's because their engineers dislike surround mixes, or because they've been fairly bad at creating them, is up for debate.

July 20 iis better than what I've heard through the rumor mill ("late summer".

I think part of the issue here is many of the existing quad & 5.1's (not all) have been released. So someone has to be paid for a new mix (& a quality new 5.1 mix is going to be time consuming, even for Steven Wilson!) and they have to find the original multi tracks. It may be that only the majors can justify the cost.

I thought, as on previous 5.1 remixes, that James Guthrie would have been the man to do the mixing.

One thing I discovered after buying a few quad SACDs is that I don't like it. I miss the center channel.

I believe these have been pushed back to August or September.

Acoustic Sounds shows 8/3 for Axis & "late summer 2018" for AYE. Hopefully that means they're adding all the related singles & officially released alt versions to AYE....... I'll be irritated if it doesn't include all related tracks. I've probably bought AYE more times than I have fingers! AFAIK, the only official related tracks released for Axis are the mono versions.

Axis has been pushed back to 9/28. AYE still shows "Late Summer 2018". I wonder what the hold ups are on these?

And there's still no sign of Experienced.

You have to wonder if Acoustic Sounds is about to follow Audio Fidelity over the cliff.

I suspect this one is an issue of some sort with the Hendrix family, who gives a new meaning to the term, "dysfunctional family". (The 4 JH SACD's are also $5 more than the rest of AS's catalog)

A.S. is still issuing product; though they are doing more vinyl than digital these days. The only other thing I can think of is (I believe) due to decreased demand by the labels, we have very few SACD pressing plants left world wide; the issue could just be scheduling the actual pressing. Switching from SACD to blu-ray audio might be a good choice for AS. The onlly sonic difference I'm aware of is hybrid SACD is backwards compatible with cd players.

I'd be very surprised if AS went under. They don't even seem to feel the need to discount (sales) as MFSL do (& AF did).

That said, I wish they'd hurry up & get these out!

I think I posted this in the EL thread; AYE, has been pushed back to "Winter 2018-2019". A.S. is giving 9/21 as the date for Axis.

If the sound quality is good, I may pull the trigger on these.

IMO, Apo makes the best sounding SACD's on the planet. The limiting factor will be how good or bad the master tapes are.

There's a new release date for AYE: 11/30/18. Axis remains 9/21/18.
