Description
On 9th October, Warner/Rhino (in the USA) and Mercury/UMC (in the UK) will release a 6 CD box set of all of the studio albums by Dire Straits, a band that straddled the globe with their sophisticated rootsy guitar rock wedded to literate story-telling lyrics. Emerging on the club and pub circuit in 1977, Dire Straits were led by charismatic Geordie singer-songwriter, record producer and composer Mark Knopfler, one of the most successful musicians the UK has ever produced, who is often cited as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Dire Straits’ sound defined the late 70s/early 80s with monster hits such as ‘Sultans Of Swing’, ‘Romeo And Juliet’, ‘Money For Nothing’ and ‘Walk Of Life’. Dire Straits’ 1985 album Brothers In Arms, a global No 1 and double Grammy Award winner, is one of the world’s best selling albums. After releasing their final album ‘On Every Street’ in ’91, Knopfler called time on Dire Straits in 1995 and set off on a new path as a solo artist.

Dire Straits – The Studio Albums 1978-1991 features the albums Dire Straits (1978), Communiqué (1979), Making Movies (1980), Love Over Gold (1982), Brothers In Arms (1985) and On Every Street (1991) - all of which are certified multi-platinum. The albums will come in a deluxe clamshell box with the CDs housed in mini-vinyl style cardboard wallets and each album will include a beautiful poster with the original sleeve artwork (including lyrics and credits).

This box set was a vinyl-only release back in 2013. It's being issued on vinyl again, but this time there will also be a CD configuration of the box, which is listed above.

Unless there's something new or rare, I don't need this. I guess that this is a tie-in for the Hall of Fame induction.

If this is a straight CD reissue of the original vinyl set, it will be remastered albums with no bonus material.

I've been wanting to pick up their studio albums as recently as this past weekend. Now's my opportunity!

I hope you meant to say this year. I have been awaiting as many of us for a long time but MFSL will do a stellar job as we all know.

This is good news and long overdue.

The 2000 remasters sounded excellent, so is it those or new ones like the vinyl ones were?

Hopefully they will finally put out the unreleased studio stuff
Some of those tracks are incredible!
I have a very rough boot of some of those tracks

That would be nice, but I'd settle for just the full "Twisting By The Pool" EP (as previously mentioned).

The Rhino box will likely cause an even longer delay in the release of MoFi's SACD editions. Neither party will want competing product out at the same time. So, since the Rhino release date has been announced, those of us who've been waiting over a year for SACD will now be waiting even longer.

This will only be the studio albums with no bonus tracks or rarities disc.

No EP either.

A friend asked if the CD version will be a new remaster (like the vinyl box was)? Can anyone confirm that the CDs will not be the Bob Ludwig remasters that have been out for ages?
The price is very good if these are new versions,

If you can get the original CDs from 1985/1986 you will have the best versions on CD. I can't see how these remastered versions be better considering the past remastered versions were brickwalled to the max.
