Previously unreleased album.

In the fall of 1993, between contracts with Capitol and RCA, The Smithereens ventured into Crystal Sound Studios NYC to write and record a new album for their own label. The results of those one month marathon recording sessions is this album, unheard by the outside world until now, and appropriately titled "Lost Album".

"We were in between labels in 1993 and decided to record an album on our own. We had enough songs for two albums and when we signed with RCA Records in 1994, we re-recorded half the songs which became 'A Date With The Smithereens'. The other half remained in the vault 'til now. It's fun for us to go back and hear these forgotten songs. I think our fans will like hearing these lost balls in the weeds. It didn't make sense to record a double album back then." - Jim Babjak

I've added the tracklist to the first post. A few of these did appear on the 2005 Mega Box, either as demos or as finished recordings. Great songs that deserve to be heard by everyWAN.

The Lost Album CD has now been assigned a release date -- September 23rd.

Out Of This World
Three versions of this song are included in Mega Box, all with different running times... we'll have to see if any match up with what's on Lost Album.

Dear Abby
A full band demo is included in Mega Box. Will the Lost Album version be a full studio production?

Don't Look Down
A DiNizio solo demo was included in a 1995 MCA Publishing promo titled Song Demos, and there was also a version -- same? different? who knows? -- included in the 1999 digital-only Pat DiNizio's Basement Tapes compilation.

A World Apart
Five versions of this song are included in Mega Box, and DiNizio also recorded it for his 1997 solo album Songs and Sounds. The 2005 reissue of God Save The Smithereens added what was billed as an "unreleased demo" version, although DiNizio seems to muddy the waters a bit in the liner notes:

"A World Apart" was originally written for and intended to be part of A Date With The Smithereens, but ultimately found its way onto my solo album, Songs and Sounds, with a totally different arrangement than is found here. This is a great 24 track Smithereens studio version, much superior to a demo, yet not quite a master.

Stop Bringing Me Down
Two versions of this song are included in Mega Box, both of which clock in at over 6 minutes each.

Pretty Little Lies
Monkey Man
As with "Dear Abby", full band demo versions for these two tracks are included in Mega Box.

Everyday World
A whopping seven (!) versions of this song are included are included in Mega Box.

Face The World With Pride
Two different demo versions of this song are included in Mega Box.

Love Runs Wild
A full band demo is included in Mega Box.

I'm Sexy
This song was previously released on the A Date With The Smithereens 4 x 7" box set and later included in a 2010 digital-only iTunes compilation.

All Through The Night
A "no vocals" band demo is included in Mega Box.

And while it wouldn't really be appropriate for this release, the band's cover of "Time Won't Let Me" -- released as part of the Timecop soundtrack -- was also a bonus track on the Japanese A Date With The Smithereens CD.
