Description
The ultimate exploration into Elton John’s extensive back catalogue,‘Jewel Box’ encompasses a selection of deep cuts chosen by Elton himself; rarities from the earliest stage of his and Bernie Taupin’s musical journey; B-sides spanning 30 years, and songs discussed in Elton’s best-selling, critically acclaimed 2019 memoir,‘Me’. The eight discs come in a beautiful hardcover book, enclosed in an outer slipcase. Each section contains extensive notes and, for ‘Deep Cuts’, there is track-by-track commentary by Elton. The set contains an unprecedented number of previously unheard, unreleased tracks from 1967 - 1969, the years that cemented the foundations of the iconic John-Taupin partnership: ‘Jewel Box’ truly is a treasure trove for Elton John fans.

Discs 1 & 2: Deep Cuts – A selection of personal favorites, curated by Elton. The box set book includes a track by track written commentary by Elton John with Alexis Petridis.

Discs 3, 4 and 5: Rarities 1965 -1971 – Elton’s much sought-after 1960s and early 1970s demos and music that cemented the foundations of the iconic John-Taupin writing partnership. The compelling, previously unreleased, missing piece in his illustrious story. Daryl Easlea narrates this fascinating story with contributions from those who were there at the time.

Discs 6 & 7: B Sides 1976-2005 – Flipsides, never before compiled together. Those B-Side gems that are now given another chance to sparkle – many never previously available digitally.

Disc 8: And This Is Me . . . – To coincide with the release of the updated paperback edition of ‘Me’, the final collection celebrates the songs mentioned by name by Elton in his acclaimed book, closing ‘Jewel Box’ with the 2020 Academy Award winning “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again”.

From what I understand this is filled with rare tracks, b-Sides and lesser known album cuts.

Not sure if there’s any live material or new songs.

Possibly the Dick James demos from the 60s and other demos.

This is a must have for me.

I am definitely in on this, especially the Rarities and B-Sides, even though I probably have most of the latter

loads of 'new' stuff on this......$110......oh well, christmas is coming.

you know, my wife says i'm 'cheap', and this comment has led quite a few 'lively' discussions about me being old and not understanding what things cost etc etc etc

but..........$110....for 8 CD's of material that was already finished and required only the work to put it into order and onto a master machine to make mass quantities of the product. OK OK OK i get the nice hardcover book, but (i know 'but' again) how bout this: keep the book and sell me the music for $50....that's $6 a CD and more than fair and now you sell 3, maybe 4 times as many.

giving me a book in a package is like giving me a DVD, sure its nice, but what is going to end up happening with it? you all know the answer to that one :)

There are far too many great box sets coming this fall. And they are all must-haves!

I am listening to it on Amazon Music, and it slid right into Snow Queen from the box, so two are actually available.

There isn't an official video for that yet, lyric or otherwise, but I put the label's own upload of "Snow Queen" into your post.

And now there's an unboxing video, too!

I am looking forward to this, when I can find a bargin on it.

My problem with boxes like this that are targeted to the most ardent fans is when they include music you have already purchased (maybe more than once) and that looks like discs 1, 2 and 8. If I consider those to be free then at $110 for the box it's $22 a disc for the material I want that I don't have.

Yes, I agree. I think pretty much anyone interested in a box like this already has the deep tracks- if you didn't, why would you be interested in the demos or alternate material? This is for people who've exhausted the official catalog and want more.

Since Elton's one of my favorite singers and I only own sixteen of the songs on here I'd absolutely love to get this, but unless it goes seriously down in price I doubt I'll ever get it. But boy does it sound right up my alley.

Yep, you're right. Coming up.... Pink Floyd, featuring Paul Rodgers. The Later Later Years. Remixed and remastered by Roger Waters.

That fell through because he wouldn't change his legal name to Paul Rodgers Waters.
