Description
Having not hit the road for most of the 80s, The Steel Wheels Tour was an astounding return for the Rolling Stones, not least as it was the longest they had by that point undertaken. It was also to be their last with Bill Wyman. Steel Wheels Live was recorded towards the end of the band's 60-date run through the stadiums of North America, in the second half of 1989. Special guest appearances from Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Eric Clapton and John Lee Hooker.

I still have my PPV recording I transferred from VHS to DVD.

This was a long show and a damn good one.

They sounded so good on this tour and it was light years from the Tattoo You tour where everything was sped up and rushed.

I was at the opening night of this tour in Philly.

I remember scrambling to record both the video and the FM simulcast of this concert when Fox re-broadcast much of it the following year. I managed to hang onto some pairs of the 3D glasses as well as a giant Budweiser/7-Eleven store display that held free posters promoting the show. Commercial breaks during the special heavily promoted reruns of the first season of "The Simpsons".

I'm kind of kicking myself for not keeping up with the Stones vault releases over the course of the past ten years. I'm seeing where a couple of the Google Play download concerts I missed are apparently now only available as pricey OOP DVD's (or something). Part of this may have stemmed from my general disinterest in concert DVD's as opposed to live CD's (I'm just not in the habit of stopping everything I'm doing to watch music). But still...there was a time when I would have immediately snagged each and every one of these.

Isn't it strange that in both the videos above, Bill Wyman is never individually shown?

It's not the first time that such a thing has been done with Bill.

Amazon US - The Blu-Ray package dropped $4 bucks to $28.64 - seems to be the biggest drop that I noticed since being in my Saved For Later since announced (though I went back to it via the link above).

I was shocked to see it was delivered already today!
