I bought it back when it came out. The music is nice and it's a consistent sound musically. Brian's voice take a little getting used to - it's not aided be the his own signature layered vocals which frankly hides some of his lost voice.
I like some of the tracks though.
He released another album that year, the "soundtrack' for I just wasn't Made for These Times." While is was basically reworkings of old Beach Boys songs, and again, his voice was a little more exposed, it sounded pretty damn good.

I bought this album when it came out and really loved it, but like many of my CDs it was filed away and rarely played in recent years. I ended up buying the vinyl edition, and have to say I'm blown away. The album is more magical than I remembered
My friend wrote a review, and gives his version of why he think it sounds better all these years later. Although I don't care about numbers and bits and all that, I just know my ears love this record.

I am really enjoying the reissue. Perhaps with SMiLE now out, it is much easier to appreciate for what it is rather than lament what it wasn’t (at the time).
