Description
2018 marks 50 years since progressive folk-rock band Jethro Tull jumped onto the British music scene. To kick off this exciting anniversary year, we present you with the 40th anniversary ‘New Shoes Edition’ of Heavy Horses, a 3CD/2DVD boxset released by Parlophone Records. This edition will feature the original album, plus additional studio recordings, live material and an extensive new booklet.

Released between Songs From The Wood (1977) and Stormwatch (1979), Heavy Horses was the second of a trilogy of folk rock albums from Jethro Tull. Lead singer and flautist Ian Anderson explained its particular focus on horses and agricultural life saying, “As a child, my big passion was to get off the leash and explore the local wooded and leafy suburbs. So it didn’t suddenly become new in 1977, it was just that the subject matter fitted what I wanted to write about at the time.” Upon release, Heavy Horses was a top 20 album on both sides of the Atlantic. Commercial success was met equally with critical praise for its melodies, instrumentation and Anderson’s signature flute playing. More recently, critics have described the album as “daring, experimental, literate, and often thrilling”, and a “testament to the men who made it”.

This anniversary edition features the original album with nine additional bonus tracks, seven of which are previously unreleased. The ‘New Shoes Edition’ also contains a live concert from May 1978, and two DVDs which feature the original, bonus and live tracks all mixed to surround sound by Steven Wilson and Jakko Jakszyk. A 96-page booklet covers a history of the album and corresponding tour, complete lyrics, rare photos and exclusive interviews.

God Bless Steve Wilson. Even Ian Anderson doesn't understand Wilson's obsession with Tull's catalogue.

Personally, I love it all.

It always seems most of my CD/DVD/Blu-ray purchases every year has something to do with Steven Wilson. :D

Thank goodness for him. I wonder how he feels about the whole Bluetooth/single wireless speaker (Sonos etc) disease engulfing our planet?

Another masterpiece of an album getting the royal treatment (oh, but wait CDs are dead!).

Still...including Bursting Out is disappointing because there must've been another live recording they could've used.

That is a tremendous live album though.

Not sure on this one. I usually buy anything remixed/mastered by SW from artists I liked. Hesitation is this album has never really hit me.

Probably grab it for the live stuff in hi-res if nothing else.

IP, not sure if I understand your comment re: Bustin' Out. Is this series skipping it, or are the tracks mixed in with the other live stuff here?

$50 is a bit pricy, also.

Bursting Out is in this package.

That live track listing is the exact album.

As for Heavy Horses, this is a fantastic album, and though it sold very well going Gold, it doesn't get talked about much.

But Heavy Horses, Moths, The Mouse Police Never Sleeps, One Brown Mouse (what was it with mice?), No Lullaby and Weathercock are as good as it gets.

I always dug "Bursting Out" so a nice refresh re-master and possible re-mix(do you know if it is Pete?) is icing on the cake for me. :yay:

The track list says it's a Jakko remix. I'm in for Bustin/Burstin (whatever, lol) Out in 96/24.

The only remaster of Bursting Out by Peter Mew was really good, so maybe there will be a remix of it based on his master, or will they use the original master?

Either way, it's the exact same track listing from the live album, from the exact same tour and the exact same year right down to the Claude Nobs introduction.

That's just where my went right away, but how could that not be Bursting Out?

Wilson said he's done after Stormwatch.

I hope not.

Yeah, hope not. I can't think of a Tull album that I wouldn't buy again ala Wilson,
but I can understand others not doing so.

With his work on the Yes catalog now done, I guess I'm going to have to delve into the Tull catalog now. So far, I've gotten his Aqualung and Benefit remixes and those were pretty darn OK!!

:yay:

The only remaster of Bursting Out by Peter Mew was really good, so maybe there will be a remix of it based on his master, or will they use the original master?

Either way, it's the exact same track listing from the live album, from the exact same tour and the exact same year right down to the Claude Nobs introduction.

That's just where my went right away, but how could that not be Bursting Out?

By it's very nature, remixes are before mastering; a remix has to come from the multi track original recordings.

I'm hoping I can afford this as my finances have become dire since my Australian wife cleared off with her business partner in good 'ol NY

These Tull box sets are the benchmark for box sets to be honest.

Great music, great production, great content, a 5.1 mix, superb booklets and incredible price!

I wish more of my favorite artists revisited their catalog in this manner.

I'd be more interested if there was a version with just CD's for the audio portion. I'd buy if the DVD was a concert and not only audio.
