I'm in unless the mastering gets bad reviews. I only have most of this stuff on the Message in a Box set. Would be nice to have each album on it's own disc and the original album artwork.

Message In A Box is lacking in one important area, it isn't configured around the original albums and cover art. It's "complete" but unattractive. So I've ordered this new box from the UK and will keep both.

Another good example of where the vinyl resurgence costs CD buyers.

This new box set does have a remix of Truth Hits Everybody...but the old Message in a Bottle set has lots of songs that won't be available in this new box set:

The label SHOULD expand the bonus Flexible Strategies to 2 discs so all of this material could be included (and jack the price up another $10, which I think would be fine with most buyers as it means another 14 songs including the Fallout/Nothing Achieving single). But they would never consider doing this, no way will they give CD buyers anything extra when they are in the process of trying to convert all physical media buyers to vinyl.

The direction I have taken over the years after of course acquiring the 'Message..." box which I sill retain for the insightful song listing that JosephC has noted.

My route has been the import Police boxset 1/2 speed vinyl and on CD the Japanese SACD's which are incredible therefore I am set.

But I must say the price on this UK box would make a perfect Christmas gift for someone (please hold all Christmas cards).

I have Message In A Box. I also have the last round of remasters from 2003 (which are horrible), so I'll get this. Aren't these from the masters they used for the recent vinyl set?

Hmmmm...I have the last remasters from 2003 or so and those are excellent (how could anyone say they were horrible??? They were done by Bob Ludwig and are among the best remasters I own!).

I love this band, the music absolutely holds up and every album was great.

Bob Ludwig has done amazing and not-so-amazing work, like every other mastering engineer. And, also like every other mastering engineer, they're in the gig to earn a living. So, if an artist or label employing them says they want it LOUD, they're gonna get what they're paying for.

That said, I don't mind his work on the Police catalog. Like you, I have those and the Message box - which, despite being a little more sterile-sounding, I actually prefer. I also have the original Every Breath You Take: The Singles which, IIRC, doesn't exhibit the tape issues on "Roxanne" and "Can't Stand Losing You" that were present on the Message box and subsequent remasters for decades.

I'm done re-purchasing this music.

I was just saying that Ludwig did them, nit that he's flawless.

However, those remasters sound excellent and I'm not filled with ear wax where I can't tell crap from gold.

Not saying you said that, just pointing out that I can't imagine how they are deemed "horrible."

It would've been nice if they beefed up the rarities disc for this box and at the very least added "De Do Do Do De Da Da Da '86" which as far as I can recall is only a DVD-A release of Every Breath You Take: The Classics.
