Description
Chicago's debut album, Chicago Transit Authority (self-titled at the time), was a groundbreaking double-LP that showcased the band's imaginative writing, proficient musicality and genre-blending mix of rock, jazz, funk and pop. In recognition of its enduring influence, the album was inducted into the Grammy® Hall of Fame in 2014.

In celebration of the album's 50th anniversary, Chicago worked with mixing engineer Tim Jessup to remix the entire album. On August 30, CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY (50th ANNIVERSARY REMIX) will be available.

Originally released on April 28, 1969, Chicago Transit Authority topped the album chart, was certified double platinum and earned the band a Grammy® nomination for Best New Artist. The album also has the unique distinction of having stayed on the charts for an amazing three-year run (171 weeks); a record when it was released.

This classic double album includes several of the group's most-enduring hits: "Beginnings," "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" and "Questions 67 and 68." It also features the signature guitar work of the late Terry Kath on "South California Purple," "Free Form Guitar" and a blazing cover of "I'm A Man."

The album features Kath, keyboardist Robert Lamm, bassist Peter Cetera, drummer Danny Seraphine and Chicago's legendary horn section: Lee Loughnane (trumpet), James Pankow (trombone), and Walt Parazaider (saxophone).

Chicago is one of the longest-running and best-selling groups of all time. It is the first American band to ever chart albums in Billboard's Pop Top 40 in five consecutive decades. The group's extensive accomplishments include: two Grammy® Awards, multiple American Music Awards, 11 #1 singles, five consecutive #1 albums, record sales in excess of 100,000,000, with 25 albums earning platinum certification.

A perennially popular live act, Chicago will tour for the 52nd consecutive year this summer.

The 1969 mix of this classic album is already amazing. The Bluray high resolution mix is incredible. I used to show off my vintage JBLs playing this album loud. If Steven Wilson remixed this it would have to be something special.

From the band's Facebook page: "In celebration of the album’s 50th anniversary, Chicago worked with mixing engineer Tim Jessup to remix the entire album." The post also notes that it will be available in CD and 2LP versions, including "Individually Numbered, Limited Edition Gold Vinyl."

Not to mention the fact that the vinyl is the only way to listen to an album because vinyl is the only way that something can sound right.

CTA always sounded so much better than II. even III sounded much better than II.

however, the steve wilson II sounds pretty darn good IMHO.

It's not a Steven Wilson remix, so pass.

:agree: And there's apparently no high res, so I'll likely stick with the MFSL SACD & the Quadrio blu-ray

This Tim Jessup is a sound genius.

Go and find articles where he talks about sound and the job he had to do on the Isle of Wight from
last year’s (crappy) box set.

This man seriously knows what he’s doing, and has incredible equipment, so let’s not slam this remix just yet.

Probably one of my five favorite albums. Even though the original mix sounds terrific, I'll be up for this. I have so many versions of this album it's ridiculous; what's one more?

Unnecessary remix. Pass.

Release details are now in the first post. The CD will be a general release (and we're awaiting the Amazon pre-order link). The coloured vinyl version will be exclusive to Rhino's website.

It has to be weird for them to see their album hit the 50 year mark...especially when 6 of the original 7 members are alive, some even still touring today.

There is a digital single of Beginnings out. I haven't heard it.

I feel I have bought this one 50x by now, jeez. Bet Jimbo had a pile of these in his collection including the vinyl.

Wow. I can really hear the difference between this and the original album. I'm not sure it's BETTER, but it is definitely different. There's a lot more feeling of space in the mix.

Listening through headphones, the new mix almost sounds like Terry Kath on lead vocals instead of Robert Lamm.
