After years of fake releases and fake news, it appears that we're finally going to get a legitimate CD release from the Dave Clark camp in January 2020. This collection first came out digitally in May 2019, simply entitled The Hits, and I'll post a few samples so everyWAN can gauge the sound quality. Not exactly an audiophile experience, but at least the tracks don't sound like they were ripped from vinyl this time:

I've closed our longstanding (and frustrating!) Dave Clark bash-fest in the ICEbox. Discussion can continue here.

linda,

no idea if you know or not, but are these songs, or this set, going to be different form the 90's official release "the history of the dave clark five" on holly wood records

thanks,

renny

That comp had 50 songs. I'm glad I got that one.

Were the previously released CD comps, The History Of The Dave Clark Five and Glad All Over Again, sourced from vinyl? I haven't played them in a while, but don't recall them being too bad sound wise, or there being talk of them being from vinyl.

i have had 'history' since it came out, and as far as i can tell there are no needle drops on it, but that does not mean that there are not, i love music, i have a very stereo system, but.....i am not a stickler for sound like some are.

i would rather have a mediocre sounding needle drop on a CD, than a vinyl record and all the anomalies that come with it.

I agree with Renny.

Haven't pulled out History in a very long time, but I do remember talk of some tracks being from vinyl. That's what I was referring to upthread.

What I really want is not so much this new compilation (although I'll be getting it), but rather the entire original catalogue on CD. Perhaps BMG will make it happen if this comp sells decently. And it should be promoted as "DC on CD", of course. :)

linda,

if i recall correctly, and my memory is certainly not what it once was, they said the same thing when the first comp came out.

if it sells well we will release the whole catalog, alas, it never came to pass, and once again tasting my memory, i think the first comp went OOP rather quickly, and became collectible post haste.

Well, BMG issuing the whole DC5 catalogue on CD is just my wish at this point. They haven't announced anything beyond this compilation.

That is also my wish, and hope.
Like the sox fan, I am not as concerned with sound as some are, but I don't recall any of the comps sounding bad or faulty in any way.

"I'm Thinking" is the only track of theirs for which I have not been able to find a decent recording.

DC on CD in '20. :yay:

Comparing the track list to the Billboard list none of the hits appear to be missing. If I recall correctly, wasn't there some junk last time these were released that Dave held some hit tracks back because he was feuding with the guy who wrote them?

I don't think that was on the hits collections, it was on the digitally released versions of the original albums. More detail in this thread:

I've heard this in official 96/24. It's adequate.

We now have the cover art up in the first post, and the Amazon USA link has become active (but this CD is still listed as an import).

The cover image has been upgraded to a partial packshot, showing some of the disc itself. It's a picture label with a photo of the DC5 from later in their career.

Not sure what's going on but I just received an email from Amazon US cancelling my order for this CD. They said they would not be able to obtain it. Odd since it's not due for another eight weeks. Maybe someone just accidentally poured gravy into their pre-order computers. I have reordered with Amazon UK with no problem. This should be fun.

BMG (or Dave Clark himself?) pulled the USA link. The listing page is still there, so perhaps the pre-order link will return. As David said, the UK pre-order link is still working fine:

Weird. The legal hi-res downloads for almost the entire catalog are still around

Other than the cover and disc art, this is identical to the 2008 release.

The USA pre-order listing is back, and it shows as an import:

Amazon USA
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZW9ZGH7/?tag=imwan-20

Amazon UK
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZW9ZGH7/?tag=imwan-21

We also have the official description in the first post courtesy of BMG, which confirms (or at least repeats Dave Clark's claim) that the tracks are remastered.

Dave Clark has now decided to release a domestic version of this collection with only 16 tracks rather than the full 28. It's cheaper than the import, but contains less:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZWBP1DS/?tag=imwan-20

The UK pressing with the full 28 tracks can still be pre-ordered here:

Amazon USA

Amazon UK
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZW9ZGH7/?tag=imwan-21
