Not really needed, but a double best-of from The Police tying in to the tour is a pretty good idea. Really strong track selection (easy to do with only 5 albums) but nothing rare or new (shame they couldn't cut a new track or two for this). I'd also imagine a name change might be in order, but who knows?

Where's Secret Journey? That went to #46 in 1982!

I thought they were releasing a second box set? considering what the track line up was going to be, maybe they changed thier minds...

Obviously so that Jimbo can have something to buy on June 28! (Not that I would buy it also)

Not that I wouldn't buy it, but...it's the kind of title that might just fall into my lap, as it were.

Makes sense to have some new Police product on the market, when Policemania hits US shores this summer. And it will likely be repackaged to become part of Universal's "Gold" series down the line.

I used to have the Message in a Box set but sold it a few years ago when I was strapped for cash (cue violins). I wasn't quite a big enough Police fan to rebuy it or the individual albums, but I've been wanting something more than the stingy Every Breath You Take compilation. This may be just the thing for me.

Well, as you can see, some people are interested in this, and really, there is no definitive Police comp on the market (not counting the weak, short,"Every Breath You Take: The Singles" collection from 1986) and this comes close, though I agree with a previous poster about "Secret Journey"-where is that??? I also would've liked "Don't Stand So Close To Me '86" on there but oh well.
I have the box set but I might still get this, I'm not sure. It's still a really good comp though and ties into the tour nicely. Plus, they play Live Earth on July 7 and the visibility of that should keep sales for this strong through the summer as the tour continues.

I've got nothing by The Police, so I'm debating whether to get "Message in a Box", which may have the best sound, or just a single CD comp. If I were to buy a 2-CD comp, I might as well get the box set. I really only know the hits, so I wonder if the rest of the catalog is as strong. When you only release five albums, chances are you'll have a stronger catalog.

Why "When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What's Still Around" is NOT on this compilation is beyond me. What an omission!

I don't really own any comp from them and was hoping for something a little more comprehensive than the Every Breath one and I don't care to get a box set so this looks good. However,

This is really annoying. I can see why it would not be one a single disc, but come on, two discs of a band with a handful of albums and still not include it.....

If you get "Message in a Box", it's almost everything they released. All 5 studio albums, B-sides, rarities, etc. The only things missing are the live album, and a few remixes, and a couple of B-sides.
I bought the box when it came out, and made my own comp from that. There's always something essential missing on these Greatest Hits CD's, whether it's one or 2 Cd's...

Which is why if you're a true fan, you have to do your own comps, even if you own several already. Fortunately, with the advent of cheap CDRs, it's not a cost issue anymore.

I was planning to check the track listing against a list of their entire output to see if there were any major omissions. I haven't had a chance to do that yet, but When The World Is Running Down would definitely be one of them. Maybe I will have to buy the box again after all, although it's probably going to come down to a best-bang-for-the-buck thing for me, as so many things must.

If you are in the BMG club, you can get the box for $23.99, but I'd wait until they have a free shipping deal.

MusicTAP reports on the packaging, and says these tracks are "newly remastered".

>> A short note on the upcoming 2CD The Police anthology album: This set will contain 28 newly remastered from original masters songs as well as a vintage fold-out poster. The album will be housed in a Deluxe digipak with a plastic O-sleeve slipcover to protect the issue. Every single from the band including deep album cuts and favourites are here as well as the band’s first single, “Fallout” from 1977. <<

Let me add this to the Police thread. A newly remastered version of Stewart Copeland's 1985 solo album The Rhythmatist is also coming out on the 5th:
