Released as a CD in a glossy hard-backed 80 page book similar to the recent reissues of their first 3 albums from the 1970's, the book contains documentation of the story of the album alongside extensive studio photos and the complete lyrics to the material on the album. Change Becomes Us was a reworking of material originally written for Wire's follow up to their 1979 album 154 but never recorded due to the band breaking up in 1980. Recorded at Rockfield Studios throughout 2012, the band approached the unrealised material which had never made it beyond a few live performances in 1979 & 1980 (some of it appearing on their 1980 live album Document & Eyewitness) as a potential springboard for new compositions. Instead out of the exploratory Rockfield sessions the source material became in the classic Wire tradition something quite other than what it might have been had it been pursued in 1980. On its release in 2013 the album was critically acclaimed, Pitchfork calling it "as a set of songs it's fantastic…. it's a treat to have this missing link in the Wire story repaired".

I love this album, but I already own it on vinyl and cd formats. Nothing new for me here.

I had been wondering (after the reissues of the first 3 albums) if Wire would be launching a broader reissue campaign, but if this is the start of that then it's not very enticing. I'm always looking for new music, not new packaging.

I also would very much love a new album by the band. This feels like their longest layoff in a while.

Agree with your assessment of this record as well. Have it on vinyl but I cannot spring for this w/o additional music.
