To commemorate 50 years since its initial release, the album that brought us ‘Sympathy For The Devil’, ‘Street Fighting Man’, ‘No Expectations’, ‘Stray Cat Blues’ and more comes presented in a deluxe limited-edition box set edition, on 180 gram vinyl with remastered audio. The gatefold sleeve features the originally banned “graffiti” artwork, which is contained inside an outer case depicting the “invitation” sleeve. Also included in the package are a one-sided mono 12” of ‘Sympathy For The Devil’ with a graffiti-art etched B-side and a replica of the rare Japanese bonus flexi disc, containing a phone interview with Mick Jagger.

A tantalising but extremely threadbare solicitation from Universal. Which formats, what contents, we shall see. (It's likely that this will be released through ABKCO here and Decca/Universal elsewhere.)

November 2018 must break the record for reissue box sets etc.

I've been reading the speculations about this for a few months now on a Stones board and have been skeptical. Seeing it mentioned here though is giving me hope. And I'm also hoping that it will be done better than the 50th anniversary of Satanic Majesties.

There wasn't really a 50th anniversary edition of Satanic. Zero outtakes and alternative takes etc.

It was billed as such. It had stereo and mono versions, both of which had already been out as well as LPs. You're right about there being nothing extra with it and that's why it was such a stinker for me.

I agree with both of you and can't really get excited about this until we see that they've given us a proper anniversary set. Any ideas of what a proper set would contain?

Just spitballing, but this might be the obvious place to put the passel of endlessly bootlegged late-1960s cuts, including a few that ended up on Metamorphosis. Although given the uncertainties regarding outtakes from the ABKCO period, we also might see this used as a vessel to reissue things like Rock 'n Roll Circus...

Luckily the SACD edition that came out years ago is for me definitive. But we shall wait and see what goodies this might have, And is it just me or is the universe teasing Jimbo with all these Stones releases and all the upcoming goodies for Christmas?

It sure seems that way. Jim would have been in hog heaven this holiday season.

Feels more like Jimbo is gifting us with all these releases.

He would be in his glory, that's for sure.

I'm hoping they realize that the people likely to buy these things (like us) can handle two major reissues in the same calendar year. Get the stuff out there while we can still enjoy it.


He prophetically made that statement about the upcoming Beatles release back in May 2017. And I agree, get this stuff out while we still are kinda young.

My gut is telling me that this is just an excuse to release a vinyl version of the album with the original toilet cover.

According to musictap.com, this will be only a remaster. No extras. If true, VERY disappointing.

I'm going to leave the thread as is for now, considering the way Universal UK's solicit was worded. But yes, disappointing if there only turns out to be a single CD remaster.

A lot of the more recent Stones "remasters" since the SACD days have been very very disappointing. But at least they did a bang up job back then.

God Yes, grabbed everyone of them including the 'Singles'.

Years ago we had a listening party in my house with the SACD's and the Single's box with a few guys in attendance including Jimbo. The consensus then was they are excellent.
