wow!

if they do this right it could be very very good.

and, if you are interested, get it quick, they sold out of the original albums in about a day and half.

Love these guys. I had lucked out and have of their original albums on CD which went out of print almost immediately.

So as Renny has recommended, move on it quick as I (and presumably he) to execute a pre-order. :ohyes:

Why stop at 1976? They still charted some hits through 1978, all for WB, so it's not a label thing.

I count 30 tracks across their T.A and Warners singles 1969 to 1976. = 8 T.A, 22 Warners. Just 1 of those T.A singles was in 1969, so says the 45cat website.

So this would be lacking 10 Warners sides 1977 to 1980, of which 2 A-sides were Top 40 hits, My Fair Share (28), and You're The Love (18).

Thus early and prime time...

I pestered the guy at Wounded Bird for ages about Seals & Crofts. He wasn't convinced that they'd be big sellers, but eventually caved. (Not saying I'm the only reason they released them, but I did push.) Since their Greatest Hits, which was the only compilation out for years, stopped short of their later years, I always felt that a good 2-CD set would do it. My only disappointment here is the emphasis on singles. I'm pretty sure they had some good album cuts that weren't singles. I'm also disappointed that as mentioned above, this doesn't cover all their years. I'll reserve judgment though until I see what ends up on this set.

For those lamenting the quick disappearance of the Wounded Bird titles, they have reissued a two-fer of the first two albums. Though these aren't packed with hits, you can at least get them.

In general, this release is kind of a surprise. It's not usually Wounded Bird's thing to do their own compilations. They typically stick to straight reissues of original albums. It will be interesting to see how well they deliver.

which begs the question:

if they own the rights to release these songs on a compilation, why don't they just re-release the individual albums? after all, they sold like hotcakes!

Could the reason behind not re-relasing the albums is tied to a contractual situation with the original record label, meaning Wounded Bird was given rights for a specific period of time (say 12 months) and after the time lapsed, they were done? Perhaps too the albums ony sold small quantities when re-relased by Wounded Bird and it would not be financially viable to press 5,000 or so copies of each CD.

The Completist's question- is there anything on this compilation that has not previously been released on CD? I grabbed all the Wounded Bird releases when they appeared so have all of the band's CD output to date. Are there any non-LP b-sides that are making their first CD appearance on this compilation?

Related to this...were the single versions of any of these songs significantly different than their album counterparts? (...and what are the odds that Wounded Bird would have access to them if they are different?)

There's that uber-cheap Warner box that covers this era this as well. Doesn't have that non-album single, though.

whatever amount they pressed, they sold out of in about a month.

although your words reminded me of pink floyd's 'the wall" on mfsl, they could press X amount of copies and could only sell them for one year.

possible in this case too.

you used to be able to email the guys at wounded bird and they would get back to you in about a day, not anymore.

That's what I'm thinking too!! I collect 1970's chart singles. They charted 3 more singles in 1977 and 1978, 'My Fair Share' (peak 28), 'You're the Love' (peak 18), and Takin' It Easy' (peak 79). I could see leaving these songs out of this release if those singles didn't make the Top 40, but 3 of the included tracks were not Top 40 hits. Seems like an odd choice to me. With 15 tracks on CD1 and 16 on CD2 of this package, there had to have been room for another 6-8 (or more) songs to make it a complete package of their 1970's singles.

I'll pass.

I'm not a Seals & Crofts expert or nut, but after looking at the 45cat and Discogs websites, plus a few others, something appears amiss here. I'm assuming this 2 CD set is all about the US singles A's & B's. I discovered:

--the T.A 1969 single "In Tune/Seldom's Sister" is not included. OK, that was 1969, not 1970, fine if that's how they wanna play ball...
--the T.A 1970 b-side "Cows of Gladness" is not included (whereas its a-side "See My Life" is included)
--neither side of the T.A 1970 single "Ridin' Thumb/Leave" is included
--both sides of the T.A 1971 single "Gabriel Go On Home/Robin" are included, A-OK...

So only 3 of the 8 T.A sides are on this.

Then these 4 Warner Bros tracks are included, and I cannot find anywhere that they were released as singles in the US:
--High On A Mountain was on a Netherlands single
--Standing On A Mountain Top was on a German single
--Windflowers was on a New Zealand single
--Dessert People was on a New Zealand single

And while this is in "general" chronological order, it's not exact...

Correct me iffin' I'm wrong anywhere. Maybe they can 'splain it all in the notes...

So a more apt description would be: contains all their US Warner Bros singles thru 1976, plus 3 of 6 US T.A sides from 1970-71, and 4 foreign single sides, something like that...

The pre-order price for the new 2CD singles comp has dropped by nearly $6, down to $14.19:
