Description A 3CD/2DVD 40th Anniversary Edition of Songs From The Wood, one of Jethro Tull's finest and most accessible albums and the first in the band's acclaimed late 1970s 'Folk Rock Trilogy'. Featuring 2017 Steven Wilson stereo and 5.1 mixes, unreleased bonus tracks from the period, a live concert from 1977 mixed by Jakko Jakszyk, and a comprehensive 96 page booklet. SFTW highlights the band at its most playful and due to its lush production and more noticeable use of keyboards is perhaps one of the band's most obviously Progressive Rock orientated releases. The first disc of the set contains the Steven Wilson remix of the original studio album, accompanied by associated recordings. These include the tracks Old Aces Die Hard and Working John, Working Joe (released for the first time on any format). CDs 2 and 3 in the box comprise 22 live tracks, recorded on the Songs From The Wood Tour across two dates, Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA on 6th December 1977 and Capital Centre, Landover, Maryland, USA on 21st November 1977. These tracks have been reconstructed as a complete set and then remixed to stereo by Jakko Jakszyk. DVD 1 contains 5.1 DTS, AC3 Dolby Digital Stereo Surround and 96/24 LPCM stereo versions of the original and Steven Wilson remixed album along with selected associated tracks (as well as various quad mixes and flat transfers). The final disc in the package is the video footage taken live at the Capital Centre, Landover, Maryland on 21st November 1977 mixed to 16/48 stereo LPCM and 5.1 DTS, AC3 Dolby Digital surround by Jakko Jakszyk. The video footage comes directly from the film that was played to the big screens in the venue during the show and has since been seen nowhere else. Completing the set is a beautiful 96 page book, which contains images galore plus extensive writing on the history of the album. Martin Webb reflects on the writing, recording and touring of the album, while Ian Anderson gives a track by track annotation of the album and associated recordings. Steven Wilson has revealed a forthcoming
Songs From The Wood package:
Quote:
On "Black Friday" Record Store Day, 25th November, Parlophone will release a Christmas themed Jethro Tull 7 inch EP featuring my new mix of Ring Out Solstice Bells, and a substantially different version of the song called Magic Bells, which was produced by Mike Batt for a potential single, but never released. These mixes were done especially for the EP, but will also form part of a complete remix project based around the Songs From the Wood album, in progress and planned for some time next year. In the meantime Stand Up is the next release in the Jethro Tull remix series, out a week before the EP on 18th November.

Stand Up can be found here:

Songs From The Wood is the best Tull album by far IMO. An absolute delight and a wonderful mix of Folk, Prog and Hard Rock.

I'm used to the $20 range on the Wilson/Tull's.

This one is five discs and it's the initial price. All previous domestic releases in this series have dropped. The Amazon UK price (it's not listed there yet) will probably end up below Burning Shed, as well. Relax and be happy this is coming out.

I've never heard a single song from this album.
But I will it buy nonetheless and look forward to exploring the set.
There almost too much to absorb on these Tull sets

I'll wait, but I'll likely get this if at all possible. I already have several versions of it but this and Heavy Horses are my favourite Jethro Tull albums so....it's likely I'll get it eventually.

Spin.uk has it as a pre-order for £19.99, which is just under $25, so hopefully the Amazon.uk price will be closer to that than the US price. Or ... order it from Spin!
