These are 2CD distillations of the Sony UK remasters from a few years ago. BMG is just getting them back into print with only the Red Book material included, no hi-res or surround mixes:

Rick mentioned that Andy Pearce did these & they were very good,, so I bought the 96/24 HDT of Welcome Back tonight.

While HDT rarely mentions the mastering engineer (transparency, what's that??) I suspect they are the same master as both the cd & 96/24 are attributed to 2016 "BMG Rights Management"

My opinion is the 96/24 is significantly better than my Victory 2 cd remaster, but not in the same league as the Steven Wilsons or even the Jakko Trilogy.

My ears say that Pearce isn't at fault; imo, (assuming the multi tracks still exist) this needs a remix both much more then the others & more then it needed a remaster. Way too much hall ambiance. Ambiance works for classical music, but just muddies up live rock.

The purchase was worthwhile, but even with the 20% discount, I probably would not have paid $20 if I had heard it before purchase.

I bought the BSS 2 disc and it sounds horrendous. Has anyone else had an issue?

I thought the 96/24 was ok. Not great but ok.

Turns out I had forgotten there is a fan made 96/24 discrete Quad (4.1)dvd-a likely sourced from a 7 1/2 ips R2r tape, that even downmixed to 2.0 sounds significantly better.

yep the latest BSS remaster is horrendous. After all the pleasant remaster work done by Steven Wilson, he is really missed on these latest ELP albums.

My favorite BSS remains the DVDA.

The sound quality is just off, it just doesn't sound right on two speakers. I have never seen such poor quality, at first I thought I just got a defective CD.

While I greatly prefer Wilson's work, I wasn't super unhappy with the Trilogy DVD-A or the BSS DVD-A or SACD

My favorite version of BSS is the Japanese K2 JVC version. Maybe we can start a "Kickstarter" type campaign, require the label to match dollar for dollar and get Steve Wilson to do a remix. Ahh, one could dream.

Was the BSS sound issue something that was corrected ? It's the only one of the newest remasters that I didn't pick up , because of the reviews complaining about the sound.

Nope, there is no corrected version as far as I know.
The Jacko remix is an abomination
