This Doc is going to be great.
Going to be very interesting at minimum if Weir didn't castrate it (there was mention near the end of the Magazine article that the director was instructed to look more to the future; i.e. tone down the negativity).

For those who haven't heard it, Days Between is to die for; Garcia (& the Dead's) last GREAT song. Only official release i know of was a live version on the oop First live box set (So May Roads: the cream colored one with a textured surface).

I have this in my play stack. I think I will play it next after Glencoe.

I made a mix cd of the 8 previously unreleased trax & played it. Dark Star is definitely the highlight; not because it's my favorite version; but because it's a pretty unique version (at least of the many I've heard). 23 minutes, & incorporates a 1970 version of what was later called "Space"; though this one is much more musical than the later day "Space" jams.
Worst track was Hey Jude (every Dead version I've heard of that song is a train wreck); biggest disappointment was the version of Days Between is by far the worst version of that song I've ever heard; & it was performed frequently near the end (I have close to 4 cd's worth of just live versions of that song.
Though you wouldn't know it from this version, it really is one of their best songs; off the top of my head I can recommend the version from So May Roads, or Oregon 3/22/93. Really a shame that most fans have never heard Garcia's last masterpiece & that they chose possibly the worst version ever for the sound track.
Sound quality is superb like usual for Dead releases. At $15 (for the Amazon 3 disc set) this is a bargain, but I would be hesitant to point a new comer to the Dead to this, as much of this is not their best work. I'd only rank 2 or possibly 3 of the 27 recordings as essential (Cornell is quite good, but imo nothing on that is the best released version of that particular song).
Still somewhat worthwhile for Dead Collector's; the 23 minute Dark Star is worth 1/2 the purchase price on it's own.
Probably ideal for someone who has 10-20 GD albums, but hasn't gone crazy like some of us have!
That said, do yourself a favor & track down a better version of Days Between. There's a reason I collected almost 4 cd's of the 1 song!

I am intrigued, to a point. It is a pretty significant price increase from Standard to Exclusive (basically double). For that, the entire disc should be unreleased items. I may jump on the standard though.

I don't know if there's been a huge price increase or if I had a memory meltdown; When I wrote the above my memory was that the standard was $12.99 & the exclusive was $14.99.
At $30 I can't recommend the exclusive to anyone.
