Description
Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of a genuine “lost” classic album from 1972, “Ring of Changes” by Gary Wright’s Wonderwheel.

Following his departure from Spooky Tooth after the “Ceremony” album, Gary Wright participated in sessions for his friend George Harrison’s classic album “All Things Must Pass” and enjoyed a solo career that culminated in him forming the band Wonderwheel. Originally featuring Mick Jones (guitar), Bryson Graham (drums) and Archie Leggett (bass), Wonderwheel was formed to enable Wright to promote his album “Extraction”, and the group then participated on his second solo album “Footprint”. In 1972 the band recorded “Ring of Changes” (with Tom Duffey replacing Leggett on bass guitar).

The album was a fine effort and arguably featured some of the finest material written and recorded by Wright to that date. The album would also feature the notable appearance of GEORGE HARRISON on several tracks including ‘Goodbye Sunday’. Gary’s label, A&M Records elected to release ‘I Know’ as a single in 1972, but for reasons unclear, the release of “Ring of Changes” was shelved, leading Wright to participate in the recording of George Harrison’s “Living in the Material World” and to reform Spooky Tooth soon after.

With full co-operation and involvement of Gary Wright, the original master tapes of “Ring of Changes” have been located and have been re-mastered in Hollywood by Gary himself. This first ever release of “Ring of Changes” sees the original album tracks restored in full, along with the addition of three bonus tracks. Forty four years on from its recording, one of Gary Wright’s fine musical achievements can at last be experienced in full. This edition includes an illustrated booklet featuring an exclusive interview with Gary Wright.

Tracklist
1. Lovetaker
2. Wild Bird
3. Something For Us All
4. Set On You
5. Ring Of Changes

9. Creation

WOW, I had read about this but never expected a release. Being a MAJOR Spooky Tooth fan and having the Gary Wright solo records this will be a very welcomed edition.

And with Esoteric Recordings doing this you know it will be very good.

This has been my #1 CD wish for years. It's hard to believe it was recorded forty-four years ago and is just coming out now. I wrote to Gary Wright a number of years back and he replied he'd love for it to get a release but Universal had the rights. After Esoteric's Mark Powell's involvement in the Spooky Tooth box, I had hopes Esoteric might tackle this.

There are two odd things about the track listing. One of the three songs listed as a bonus cut, "What We Can Do," has always shown up as being one of the core LP's nine tracks whereas here it is listed as an additional recording from the sessions. And, the song "Wild Bird" shown as part of the main album has never been listed anywhere when this unreleased gem has been discussed, including when copies of a test pressing have turned up on ebay.

More frustratingly though is that the b-side to the non-album single "I Know" is another non-album track called "Tonight It's Right," and for some reason isn't included here ("Somebody" which is included was the b-side to the "Ring of Changes" 45). Given the release is still two months away, I am hoping this track could still wind up included to give us a 100% complete Wright's Wonderwheel collection rather than leaving one lone song to be oddly lost forever to b-side vinyl obscurity. I have written to Vicky Powell at Esoteric and asked her about this; I'll update any response.

BTW, I've repeatedly tried contacting Wright again through his http://www.dreamweaver.com site but my e-mails keep getting blocked and returned by spamcop... :-o

Whoopsie! I forgot to include "the" in the address! The accurate link you list is his official site that I've gone through and the e-mail link in the menu bar has a link to send him a message. But spamcop keeps returning 'em even though I'm not including any links or attachments...
