Wow! Another VH "reunion" tour and...another compilation. From melodic rock.com:

VAN HALEN TOUR NEWS AND NEW COMPILATION PLANNED:

Ok, an exclusive Van Halen update for you today...gotta love that!
I have said all along I would print confirmed news here when available, so here is the very latest up to date (as of today) information.

There is already a list of 17 Van Halen tour dates that was posted online over the weekend. I won't print the list, as my source has an update.

Apparently the whole tour is yet to be confirmed 100% and those dates leaked are merely a proposed itinerary/routing that is no longer valid.
I'm told the only dates on that list that have validity at the moment are the late April dates at The Pearl at The Palms Casino, Las Vegas (April 27 and 28). I'm told there is a good chance those dates will happen but the proper tour is now likely to start later than the other May dates listed.

There is also talk of - believe it or not - yet another compilation from the band. Yes, that seems correct. I talked to my source at Rhino Records today about the proposed compilation, described at one online store as Van Halen - Best Of 1978-1984.

So I asked - is this a planned compilation? My source states "There is more truth to that than not.". Upon further prompting, I'm told that there are plans for a new compilation concentrating solely on the David Lee Roth years and the situation is currently "nothing firm...but something should come of this...". In closing, my source says the title is not yet decided, but definitely will have a little more character than just Best Of 1978-1984."

I couldn't hang up without asking about a long overdue Van Halen box set. The reply - "Hopefully one day..."

Before anyone asks....this compilation will feature no new material and I'm sticking to my long held position that there is still no new material with David Lee Roth planned at all.

I am also of the opinion that there will be no press release this week...

What program did you use for the cover art (Specifically the spines)?

I just use the Cover Designer aspect to my Nero burning program.
My stuff isn't too fancy (I like my boot covers to still look like boots) but they work for me.
I've got about 135 covers done so far and always more to come!

I was more showing the track listing. I'm sure the official release will be quite shorter but this is what they could put out...but probably won't.

I also have Nero (6). How do you get the spine both colored & the text inserted?

From Blabbermouth.net the actual track listing. Not bad for a best-of with some curious omissions like "I'll Wait" for example. Sad that neither of the ass-kicking songs from 1996 are on here like "Me Wise Magic". Guess that would be 1978-84, 1996 then!
Anyway, a useless comp, but pretty good for newbies...

BLABBERMOUTH.NET can reveal that Rhino Records has set a March 13 release date for VAN HALEN's "Best Of (1978-1984)", the first single-disc compilation exclusively spotlighting 1978-1984, the group's original David Lee Roth era. The album, which coincides with VAN HALEN's March 2007 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, contains over an hour of remastered classics from the albums "Van Halen", "Van Halen II", "Women And Children First", "Fair Warning", "Diver Down", and "1984". Highlights include "Runnin' With The Devil", "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", and "And The Cradle Rock". Also featured are "Everybody Wants Some", "So This Is Love" and "Oh, Pretty Woman". The CD booklet will contain rarely seen photos and liner notes.

"Best Of (1978-1984)" tentative track listing:

01. Runnin' With The Devil
02. Eruption
03. You Really Got Me
04. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
05. Jamie's Cryin'
06. Dance The Night Away
07. Somebody Get Me A Doctor
08. Beatuiful Girls
09. And The Cradle Will Rock
10. Everybody Wants Some
11. Mean Street
12. Unchained
13. So This Is Love?
14. Where Have All The Good Times Gone
15. Oh, Pretty Woman
16. Dancing In The Street
17. Jump
18. Panama
19. Hot For Teacher

According to MelodicRock.com, VAN HALEN — featuring David Lee Roth on vocals — will likely play two dates in Las Vegas at The Pearl at The Palms Casino on April 27-28 before kicking off a full North American tour sometime late spring. A list of 17 VAN HALEN tour dates was posted online over the weekend, but those are now said to be "merely a proposed itinerary/routing that is no longer valid," according to the site.

Billboard.com reported last week that a deal was nearly done for VAN HALEN to embark on a summer tour that would include 40 amphitheatre shows.

Guitarist Eddie Van Halen recently told Rolling Stone, "Everything is up in the air. We don't want to say anything prematurely," hinting that VAN HALEN would tour this summer whether David Lee Roth was the singer or not.

The band now includes Eddie's son Wolfgang on bass, replacing original bass player Michael Anthony.

"Where Have all the Good Times Gone"?. I would have rather seen "Secrets" on thier instead. Even though it wasn't a hit, I just never cared for WHATGTG.

I'll stick with my homemade comp instead of this...

I also have Nero (6). How do you get the spine both colored & the text inserted?

You can set up the text then rotate it and drag it over to the spine area.
The background is all one piece that I have saved on my computer that I use. It is inserted using the "background properties" tab.

I'm pretty out of it when it comes to computers so if I can do this I'm sure you can too! :D

Thanks! My Nero came without a helpfile, & for some reason Cover Designer is the one part that hasn't just intuitively made sense to me.

When I need a custom spine, I usually use "CD Edit", but it doesn't allow you to custom color the spine. For DVD's I love "DVD & CD Cover Print", but it also has limitations when it comes to custom cd spines although it's awesome for DVD spines.

Even without "I'll Wait," that's still a damn good compilation. Count me in!

By my count, 15 of the 19 songs are on the Best of Both Worlds compilation. (So This Is Love, WHATGTG, Mean Streets, Somebody Get Me a Doctor) I've got all of the remasters as well so unless they add a Bonus DVD (US Festival maybe?), I can't justify picking this one up.

Finally a single disc collection to cover this era and it actually seems to have collected the right tracks, even without "I'll Wait" which would only please me for inclusion because it was a hit, not because I like it.

Looks like I will finally get a Van Halen hits disc.
