2CD set with 40 restored and remastered tracks. Over 1½ hours of music. Rare BBC archive recordings. Authoritative liner notes and new quotes. The most comprehensive collection of The Yardbirds BBC 'live' recordings, assembled with the assistance of the BBC, with several tracks now all together the first time on this newly restored and remastered 2CD set. Several tracks have been expertly repaired from rare, hard-to-find recordings and feature for the first time on this set. Detailed data in the booklet, which also includes authoritative liner notes by Richard Morton Jack, editor of 'Flashback' magazine, and contains new quotes from Yardbirds' Jim McCarty and Paul Samwell-Smith. Jim McCarty also adds an introduction exclusively for this the set, looking back at the BBC years. The songs from the 1965-1968 period - include smash hits such as 'For Your Love', 'Heart Full Of Soul' and Yardbirds classic stage favourites 'Jeff's Boogie', 'Too Much Monkey Business', 'Smokestack Lightning', 'I'm A Man' and 'Train Kept A-Rollin'.

OK, I felt like pulling some teeth today, so here's what I found out about this "Live at the BBC" release:

--it contains 7 cuts not on the 2000 Repertoire "BBC Sessions" = 5 songs + 2 interviews
--it contains 13 cuts not on BBC disc 5 of the 2011 Easy Action "Glimpses 1963-1968" box = 10 songs + 3 interviews
--it has everything that's on "BBC Sessions"
--however, it does NOT contain the last 3 cuts on BBC disc 5 of "Glimpses" (White Summer, Dazed & Confused, Think About It)

Or to put it another way:
--it contains 5 cuts not on "BBC Sessions" nor "Glimpses" = 3 songs + 2 interviews
--it contains 2 cuts not on "BBC Sessions" that are on "Glimpses" = 2 songs
--it contains 8 cuts not on "Glimpses" that are on "BBC Sessions" = 7 songs + 1 interview

So if you want all these BBC cuts, you need "Live at the BBC" + the "Glimpses" box for the 3 missing songs.

Class dismissed.

What's next from Jimmy Page & The Yardbirds you ask?

In the latest Mojo [Oct], Jimmy sez:

. . . "I'm really keen to revisit the stuff I did in The Yardbirds," he says, mentioning the band's final sessions at CBS Studios in New York from May '68, and the ill-fated Anderson Theatre show from two months earlier.
. . . "I've been working on that. I'm in touch with the guys in The Yardbirds and I want to make sure that material comes out because those guys were so good and I really want that stuff out there, so let's see." [Phil Alexander]

Nice - I would love to hear the Anderson Theater tunes in the right sequence. Also, I would love to hear the Cumular Limits tracks cleaned up, especially Avron Knows. Wonder if he'll add the Yardbirds studio version of Dazed And Confused.

I hope he follows through on this. They did some really interesting stuff .

It looks like the Anderson Theater show (aka Live Yardbirds featuring Jimmy Page) and the final CBS studio sessions May '68 (aka Cumular Limit) are getting a legitimate release in 2017 !!! Jim McCarty sez on his facebook page:

11-26-16: Just heard some new mixes of Yardbirds`tracks from 1968 plus a new mix of a famous concert from the same time - sounds great!

11-28-16: Anderson theatre and tracks from CBS New York coming out next year

11-3-16: No [bullfight cheers] - thank goodness!

12-3-16: Could be a box set
