Description
Mastering engineer Chris Bellman, who remastered the original albums at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios, was enlisted for these new versions. In order to produce the original sound the band intended, Bellman cut straight from the quarter-inch tapes.

Previously released in this series:

The first two remasters ended up being budget-priced (currently $7.50 each, linked above) and I expect that will end up being true for the four new remasters as well.

Did anyone here get the first 2? I'm would love to hear their opinion on them vs. the previous remasters.

Mr Fuse, do you have HDCD playback?

I ask that since I do on my OPPO listening to "1984" I find the new ones not that much better.
Worth $8.00, yeah if you are really into the band and have the previous efforts.

I personally may go for "Fair Warning". I already have Hoffman's' self titled version.

I've read that the first two remasters weren't anything special. I'll hang on to my older remasters.

Stick with the remasters from 2000.

Those sound excellent and these offer little that anyone would need.

Remaster the damn Sammy-era albums!

I doubt that'll happen anytime soon. Get the Japan remasters. They really are killer. 5150 and OU812 sound as fresh as ever.

Can these be gotten anywhere fairly cheap?

Not cheap. $43 to $46 a whack now.

This guy in Wisconsin will give you the 4 Sammy-era discs for $165. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VAN-HALEN-SAMMY ... SwxcRW~GAb

He also has them individually.... which is the way I bought them. I didn't like Balance at all.

I'll stick with my bass-free 5150 and OU812 discs for now. I'm good.

They're not worth that much money to me. Those are the only two I'd consider re-buying from the Sam Halen era.
