Wilco is also one of my favorite bands, but Star Wars didn't rise to the occasion IMO. I think these songs were written at about the same time. I'll buy it, but I hope it's better than Star Wars.
Interestingly, Star Wars was at the top of many critics best-of lists for 2015. When I saw them back in January they played the whole record before digging into their catalogue and the new songs didn't really stand up. That said, they gave it away for free, so why complain?

I know these things are very subjective, but I saw 2 shows on this tour and thought the new songs killed.
Couldn't agree more. I might have had a completely different reaction on another night. Plus, I think The Whole Love is one of the greatest albums ever made, and that's tough to follow up.

Man, you ain't kidding Smiff. I was so blown away with it I saw a Special Edition of it discounted at B&N and added it anyway for the bonus tracks. Great, great album. Will go down as a very underrated album in the years to come I guarantee.

I'm a nice guy who just likes music.
Meh. I really didn't care for "Star Wars", I felt like it was a throwaway. Not too impressed with these two songs either. Hopefully, the rest of the album is better. Having said that I really loved "The Whole Love". Great album.

If I'm remembering correctly, Jeff Tweedy wrote the songs on his own, recorded his parts, and emailed the files to the rest of the band to fill in parts. These songs are from the same batch I think. That disconnect really shows.

I felt the songs from Star Wars were so much better when played live. The difference between live and recordings is probably due to that disconnect (and also the fact that I feel they are one of the best live bands on the road these days).
I'm not thrilled with the two new songs either, but ordered the album. And I look forward to hearing them live when I see the three LA shows in September.

I'm on vacation right now, but will order it when I get back. Can't pass up a package with a tee shirt.
