About this project

2014 started with a gut-wrenching break up. It was awful but so important. I made the decision to live my life a little better, prioritize myself, and music, and honesty.

I did a whole bunch of changing, moved to LA, started getting healthy, got a lot happier, and wrote songs through out the whole year. Everything from when I was working up the nerve to leave, to the feeling of falling in love again, I've done my best to encapsulate in song. Hopefully you'll cry to the former and dance to the latter.

This year was bananas but I have an album that I'm incredibly proud of to show for it. Help me raise the funds to put it out FOR REAL

Risks and challenges

This is my 2nd kickstarter and I'd like to think I'm older and wiser now. I made the rewards list really simple and have precise plans on how I'm going to fulfill them. Plus I have the wizards at Undertow Music Collective on my side this time. I'll be hole up in their office signing all those CDs and taking all those polaroids.

The most exciting challenge is the unknown of this next year. The plan is to make a bunch of music videos and go on a gigantic livingroom tour. I can't wait to see what else comes my way.

HOLD TIGHT!


OFFICIAL UPDATE: Sending out surveys to get t-shirt sizes/other specifics via BackerKit very soon! We're using BackerKit because I'll be able to send you guys the digital download super easily AND you can add on things like my old albums and extra shirts to your kickstarter rewards. So, be on the look out for stuff from BackerKit this week!

The biggest reason we're behind schedule is because I'm re-mixing the album. NOT WITH DANCE BEATS, just mixing them differently than the first round. When I sent the album to the mixer, I had 0 idea how much it would change. This album has a waaay higher production value than anything I've done before (thank you thank you for giving me the budget to go in HARD on these songs) so the mixing is much more involved than anything I've experienced and I was actually kind of shocked by how drastic the difference was.

A lot of people called it demoitis (which is when you are too attached to how you initially demo a song and can't accept change) so I just went with it, hoping I'd get used to the new mixes.

I made it all the way to mastering before I had a come-to-jesus moment and realized I needed to change something. I don't speak the language when it comes to technical music stuff but special thanks to my mixer, Mike Tuccillo, for understanding my "vibe" and "magic" jibberish and helping me learn that I'm not a huge fan of compression.

Right now we are in the process of remixing the album in a much less heavy handed way, and I feel so so great about it.

FUN UPDATE: I moved out of my studio apartment!! It was very sad but I still have a nook in my new place and I put one of the set pieces I made for my music video in it. Peep that record player I'll be spinning Some Feelings on when it comes out!! Also that before shot is just a humble brag about my power tool skillz.



I got new glasses, met some kittens, and busted my knee... woops that's not fun but LOOK, MORE KITTENS. It's not too serious but knees are nothing to mess with. I wasn't super careful with it the first week and it got way worse so ice, ace bandages, and Orphan Black have been my BFFs this week. I have to unhumble brag about the fact that I only posted 4 pictures of these tiny idiot kittens on instagram. I took thousands. That is real self control.



The music video is almost done. Here's a super exclusive behind the scenes photo of me and Amir trying to take a cute-couple-selfie right before he smashed bottles over my head for 7 hours. If you didn't catch the music video making-of in the last update, check it out!



Thank you thank you thank you for giving me the time and money to do this RIGHT, re-mixing was a pretty serious decision and I'm so glad I made it. You guys are the best record label a gal could ask for.
