Vampire Weekend's Long-Rumored Sony Signing Confirmed

In late May, Vampire Weekend ended a long Instagram absence with two posts: a Sony television and a Columbia fleece jacket. Now, those choices make a lot more sense.

The band’s long-rumored leap to the Sony imprint was confirmed in a Sony Corporation financial statement, which named a Vampire Weekend release in a list of “noteworthy projects” for the quarter ending Sept. 30.

While it's not known if this means a single or full album, news regarding the Vampire Weekend’s fourth studio album has been trickling out for some time. Most recently, the band quipped on Instagram in late May that their follow-up to 2013’s Modern Vampires of the City is “94.5% done.”

They’ve played a handful of shows in recent months, introducing new touring members following the departure of multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij in 2016. In concert in Ojai, California, they played a bit of a new song allegedly called "Flower Moon."

They've been away for a while, but the longtime critical favorites also bring a strong commercial acumen to Sony. Both Modern Vampires and 2010’s Contra topped the Billboard 200, with Modern Vampires logging more first-week sales than its predecessor.
