Yeah she's awful pretty but without the Nocturnals her sound is plain awful. I like a good modern pop album now & then but this album- from what I heard online & in the record shop- lacks decent songwriting & goes below generic standards.

I listened to samples, and think the same things. I double-checked to make sure it was the right record I was sampling. What a stinker.

I'm definitely of the same mindset that it's a disappointing effort considering GPN's output over the past decade, but I must say that having seen Grace & Company live last night in Oakland that a majority of the new material translates quite well in concert.
No idea who influenced her to go in such a pop direction, but hopefully it'll be a one off and she and the band will return to their roots with their next release.

I loved the first few albums, but when she moved away from a "rootsy" sound I lost interest. I met her at a Wilco concert once. My wife yelled, "Hey Grace Potter! My husband loves you." She walked over and asked me why I like her music. I was sort of taken by surprise and said I like blues (I know a lame answer, but to me all roots-basic music comes from blues). She looked offended and said I don't sing blues and walked away.
Oh well, nice knowin' ya.

What I've heard from this so far has been so-so - not horrible, but not enough to get me to rush out and buy it.
Saw her on Conan the other night. This is a longer-term pet peeve of mine, and probably not best in this thread, but since the thread is about her... She played 12-string acoustic on the song she did (also a very small bit of piano, I guess to prove that she's a real musician), and as I watched her one-finger chords in open tuning, I kept thinking, "And Gibson gave her a signature model..."
At least Lzzy Hale can actually play (and her sig model was WAY cooler).
