Description
Following his split with Queensryche, singer Geoff Tate put together the band Operation: Mindcrime. The Key, the first album in a trilogy, is Geoff s first release under this moniker and collects musical elements from various periods of Queensryche catalog. As expected, metal, progressive and original elements compromise the musical stylings of this debut release.

Tracklist
1. Choices
2. Burn
3. Re-Inventing The Future
4. Ready To Fly
5. Discussions In A Smoke Filled Room
6. Life or Death?
7. The Stranger
8. Hearing Voice
9. On Queue
10. An Ambush Of Sadness

Geoff Tate calling his band Operation: Mindcrime officially trumps The Who and Journey combined.

Geoff Tate's OPERATION: MINDCRIME To Release 'The Key' Album In September

June 29, 2015
http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/geoff- ... available/

OPERATION: MINDCRIME, the new band led by former Queensrÿche singer Geoff Tate, will release its debut album, "The Key", on September 18 via Frontiers Music Srl.

Named after Queensrÿche's epic concept album from 1988, "Operation: Mindcrime", Tate's new band features John Moyer (Disturbed), drummers Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio) and Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne), keyboardist Randy Gane (Myth), and guitarists Kelly Gray (Queensrÿche 1998 - 2001, 2012 - 2014) and Scott Moughton. The CD includes special appearances by David Ellefson (Megadeth), Mark Daily and Scott Mercado.

Operation: Mindcrime last Thursday (June 25) filmed a video for an as-yet-undisclosed song from "The Key". The clip is one of two Operation: Mindcrime videos which are being produced and directed by Seattle filmmaker and documentarian Jamie Burton Chamberlin (of Black Dahlia Films), who previously worked withDuff McKagan's Loaded on "The Taking" series.

"The Key" will be the first part of Operation: Mindcrime's trilogy project which Tate began recording in 2014.

Tate, who was fired from Queensrÿche in June 2012, told Heavy Metal Television about the upcoming trilogy: "I love writing stories, and I love creating musical stories, and I wanted to do something that was very in-depth. As it looks, it's gonna take about three records to cover this story."

He continued: "It's an international story set in many places around the world. And it's a bit of a mystery that I think will be interesting to follow along to see if they can solve.

"I know I always like mysteries; I like to see if I can figure out what's happening and where things are going."

Tate added: "I think it's gonna be one of the coolest things I've ever done. I'm very excited about the music. It's very intense and very progressive, very heavy, very light… It kind of covers a lot of ground, which I think a story should. I mean, a story shouldn't be static; it should have different movements to it, and it should have different shades of color, so that's what this has and it's written with that in mind."

Tate, who has always enjoyed telling stories though his music, considers the creation of the forthcoming trilogy one of his biggest and most ambitious works to date.

"I tried to reduce the story and eventually got it down to 37 ideas that needed representing to complete the story," commented Geoff. "I knew that one record wouldn't cover it and that it would have to be a trilogy."

I only have morbid curiosity left at this point.

And that "new" logo - Photoshopping the Triryche, a fleur de lis, and a USB stick? Just... ugh.

If he's still working with Jason Slater there is zero chance that this album will be any good.

That album cover is screamingly bad and Tate's dipshit hairdo is even worse.

Man, who even supports this clown?

Reading the release on it is kind of a six degrees kind of thing - his videographer worked with Duff McKagan's Loaded, but maybe not Duff himself, maybe one of the other guys in the band. And only one guy is credited as being in "Queensryche 2012-2014," so presumably everybody else is new this year? Two drummers? Is it like the Doobie Brothers, where two play simultaneously, or is it that much of a revolving door?

What a clown.

Brian Tichy is a multi-instumentalist. I believe he plays guitar and sings too.

Gane and Gray have been Tate hangers-on for years now. Gane was in Tate's old band and was a touring keyboardist with the band for years. Gray... well, we all know about the debacle that was his involvement with Queensryche (both as a producer and guitarist).

But Gane, Gray and Wright were all touring members of Tate's version of Queensryche, as was John Moyer when Rudy Sarzo was unavailable, so really they've all been with him for a few years at this point.

i'm befuddled here, having really liked some of Queensryhe's work.
i suppose you shouldn't judge a book by its cover,
but you can certainly get an idea of its worth and its likelihood of being an exercise in ego and banality.

No matter how it was Frankenstein-ed together, this pushes a lot of the "classic Queensrÿche" buttons... I could see a reasonable number of fans climbing back on board with this album.

Well sure, they snuck in a whole lot of references to the original O:M, including some melodies and chord changes from The Mission, so once again Tate's not ashamed to steal from his earlier work (when he was still benefiting from Chris DeGarmo's genius for vocal melodies and arranging).

I can see the appeal, but I'm not buying.

Another video, this time for the song "Burn"

It's like he's trying to blitz the market and sell as much as he can before people realize how full of shit he is...
