The Juliana Hatfield Three has reformed with the original lineup of Todd Philips (drums), Dean Fisher (bass), and Juliana Hatfield (guitar, vocals, keyboards, percussion) to release their sophomore album Whatever, My Love.

Recorded at Nuthouse Recording in Hoboken, NJ and co-produced by Hatfield and Tom Beaujour (Nada Surf, Guided By Voices, Minor Alps), the twelve songs on Whatever, My Love are gorgeous and punk, sleazy and sweet, unsentimental and funny. Hatfield, humble as always, acknowledges that, 'We haven't totally reinvented the wheel or anything' with this new album and that the recordings exhibit 'stuff I am sort of known for, I guess': a guitar-centric melodicism and lyrical examinations of emotional confusion. 'But I am a lot more confident now than I was then with the first album. And I had more fun recording this one.'

Whatever, My Love comes 21 years after the trio's Become What You Are debuted on Atlantic Records. The 1993 album was an influential force of uncompromising, original guitar pop/rock and secured a permanent place in alternative rock history with the radio hits 'My Sister' and 'Spin The Bottle.'

With their new album, The Juliana Hatfield Three has in a sense responded to its former directive to 'become what you are' by making an album that is exactly what it wants to be, identifiable in its acceptance--and celebration--of the eternally unknowable and unsolvable.

1. Invisible
2. Now That I Have Found You
3. Ordinary Guy
4. If Only We Were Dogs
5. I'm Shy
6. Dog On A Chain
7. If I Could
8. Push Pin
9. Blame The Stylist
10. I Don't Know What To Do With My Hands
11. Wood
12. Parking Lots

I did my 2 week check-in with Juliana's twitter tweeter page today, and am jazzed to report she's working on yet another album already!! Again via the PledgeMusic route. But this time she's putting the band back together, the Juliana Hatfield Three, for what will be their second album together after a gap of like 21 years!!

Here's a link to the stuff for the thing, operators are standing by:

http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/jh3

As with her previous PledgeMusic releases, there are several CD / download packages available with different bells and whistles, plus a lot of other items for sale, photos, cover art, T-shirts, tour books, posters, even one of her guitars that she used to smash on stage every night (I don't like that, you gotta respect your guitars...).

In the item mix, I see an 11 song demo version of her unreleased album "God's Foot". That could be interesting. I wonder how this compares to the final version that Atlantic Records refused to release. I dug around and found a 15 song shoe-arm version on several sites out there in internet land, one even on YouTube. This is really good, I can't believe Atlantic wouldn't release this, what a bunch of numb skulls!! Bonk bonk on the head!!

Check it out, love the first song as she gets into her Black Sabbath mood:

Lasttime they diid a rarity set on Pledge, they didn't answer my question if it was pressed or burned.Hope that's made clear with "11 song demo version of her unreleased album "God's Foot""

Thanks for sharing that they're mp3. I wish she would go flac; I'd probably buy all the extras.

I'm in the early part of 1st listen to the cd.

2 comments:

1. It sounds ALOT like the debut

2. If it keeps up at this level, it will be her best since There's Always Another Girl. So far, I'm really enjoying it.

I still wish she'd do the live & various bonus stuff in flac.

I'm also really enjoying this album. For me it's one of her very best releases and though it's still early in the year, it's one of the best albums of the year, so far.
