Bannings: If you're not nice
Description Since their inception back in 1976, Wire have continually carved their own path, avoiding trends to nothing other than, well, Wire. The legendary band has just announced the plans for a new album. Simply titled Wire, the band’s 13th studio album is made up of material written prior to entering the studio as well as some songs that were tested on the road over a recent tour. It was recorded at the world famous Rockfield Studios, with overdubs added at Brighton Electric last December. Original members Colin Newman (vocals/guitar) and Graham Lewis (bassist) are joined by drummer Robert Grey and guitarist Matthew Simms. Judging from the dynamic first single, “Joust and Jostle,” the band sounds better than ever — Wire have truly been on a winning streak since reforming over a decade ago. Their two most recent albums, 2011′s Red Barked Tree and Change Becomes Us from 2013 rank among the band’s finest work. Discussing their unique take on rock and roll, Newman says, “I had this idea that I wanted to avoid things that had a particular kind of tradition. I thought the three-chord trick was too simplistic and that the one-chord trick would be better. Or the two-chord trick where the second chord is definitely not the right chord. Wire do this thing so well and there’s instant atmosphere. There’s my rhythm guitar, Matt playing lap steel, Graham playing bass with effects — there’s as much effects as bass — and Rob’s tolling drumming.” In addition to the new album, Wire will hit the road. The first dates begin in the U.K. in February before the band heads to the States in May and June. “The point where our personal narratives meet is all about change — moving on and keeping it interesting for ourselves,” says Newman. “We’re in it for the long haul and this is a one-way trip.”Tracklist 1.
