Product Description
Night Surfer, Chuck Prophet’s thirteenth studio album for the acclaimed singer, will be released September 23.

Night Surfer was recorded in Prophet’s hometown of San Francisco at Decibelle Recording Studio, and in Nashville’s Alex the Great with producer Brad Jones (Cotton Mather, Matthew Sweet, Imperial Drag).

Says Prophet: “I don’t want to come off as against everything; you need to be for something too. I try to avoid pining for those halcyon days that never really exist outside of memory. Rather, this record is all about a musical path forward, about looking around and imagining where we’ll be in 20 years if we just follow that path.”

1. Countrified Inner City Technological Man
2. Wish Me Luck
3. Guilty As A Saint
4. They Don’t Know About Me And You
5. Lonely Desolation
6. Laughing On The Inside
7. If I Was A Baby
8. Ford Econoline
9. Felony Glamour
10. Tell Me Anything (Turn To Gold)
11. Truth Will Out (Ballad Of Melissa And Remy)
12. Love Is The Only Thing

Have you been writing? Thinking about the next record?

I’m recording a new album at this very moment in Nashville. It’s much of the same cast of characters from the last album. Brad Jones is producing again. Paul Kolderie, who worked on a few Radiohead albums, is helping us improve the sonics. Peter Buck came in to play and bring some jangle to it. It’s a kind of a dystopian-themed record. I look around at my hometown and the world and try to imagine where it’s going to be 20 or 30 years from now.

If I can get this thing to behave, we’re looking at a fall release and we’ve got some dates booked already in the U.K. Of course, I’m going to need things to go my way. It’s hard to get a record to behave. Nowadays I feel like I’m getting the hang of it. I’m still just chasing the buzz.

The bus?

No, the buzz. Though as an opening act, I have chased the headliner’s bus in a little van to find where we were going.

I can not wait! His album Let Freedom Ring is a largely undiscovered classic...a brilliant record. His career is full of great songs, and his live shows are even better.

I agree...and if you ever get a chance to grab a live recording, do it. He has terrific rapport with the audience.

I guess we never updated this thread. The album is called Night Surfer and it comes out next Tuesday. It's streaming on the Esquire website: http://www.esquire.com/blogs/culture/ch ... ght-surfer

I'm listening now, and so far I think it is excellent!

Pre-order details are now in the first post. Also, let me embed the playlist of the entire album from Chuck's own YouTube channel, since it will probably last longer than the Esquire stream:
