AC/DC to release new album 'in next couple of years'

AC/DC have revealed plans to release a new album "within the next couple of years".

The Australian stadium rockers have said they'll tour again once they've finished the album, which will be the follow-up to 2008's 'Black Ice'.

Guitarist Angus Young told BANG Showbiz: "At some point we'll be touring again once we get a new album out, which will hopefully be within the next couple of years."

Frontman Brian Johnson also reiterated the band's desire to top their last tour, commenting: "We'll try to make the next tour even better, we'll bloody try."

The band are due to release a new live DVD 'AC/DC: Live At River Plate' on Monday (May 9). The show was filmed during their extensive 2009/2010 world tour, which took in 108 cities.

Young has recently discussed how AC/DC have "outlived" ever new genre of music that has come along since they formed in 1973.

"We have such diehard fans, old and new. We've survived many changing fashions of music – we've outlived the lot of them," he commented.

AC/DC: 'We'll be back on the stage again soon'

AC/DC have said that they hope to tour again soon, telling fans "We'll be back on the stage again soon."

Speaking to the Daily Star, guitarist Angus Young said the band have been writing new material for the follow up for 2008's 'Black Ice'.

He said: "Me and Malcolm [Young – guitarist] have begun trying a few things. Then we’ll be back on stage again."

Young also added that the band want to make sure they give it their all onstage, saying: "You don’t want people to say: ‘Those guys used to be great.’ On this tour, I had a few problems, mainly with the legs. On stage, though, you don’t feel a thing."

Asked about how they planned to celebrate their 40th anniversary as a band, singer Brian Johnson said: "I’ll be celebrating by just being here. We could be dead, so to still be standing on a stage after 40 years is good enough for me."

AC/DC hint 40th anniversary will be marked with new album and tour

AC/DC have dropped another hint that they will release a new album and tour in 2013 to mark their 40th anniversary.

Frontman Brian Johnson said that the band are set to meet soon to "chat to see how we're feeling" about celebrating the milestone.

But speaking to Popeater.com, the singer stopped short of making any concrete plans, commenting: "We never ever say 'We're going in the studio January next year' – if you do that you're straight under pressure, and we've never worked like that."

He also said that the band are unlikely to commit to a jaunt as big as the two-year Black Ice World Tour, which concluded last year.

"That was brutal but I'd sure hate to say that's the end of it. I think you need a full stop at the end of everything, a sentence, your life, or your car. There has to be a full stop and I don't think we've had one yet," Johnson remarked.

AC/DC released a new live DVD 'AC/DC: Live At River Plate' last month.

Somehow I've never seen AC/DC in concert. JohnG and I must catch them if they hit NYC.

New album in the next couple of years? Strange announcement.

And yes, they are on my bucket list of groups I haven't seen live yet.

I await their new creative direction with relish.

And I'm actually one up on Herr Jimbo (surprisingly), because I saw 'em back in '86 on the Who Made Who tour...

I saw the Black Ice tour at the old Giants Stadium. KICKED ASS. Would definitely see them again.

AC/DC star finds he’s less famous than folk singer cousin

Image
Northern exposure: Malcolm Young and reporter Eric Mackinnin in the Hebridean sunshine

AC/DC mainman Malcolm Young discovered he’s less famous than his folk musician relative when he took his family to explore their roots on a remote Scottish Island.

He and brother Angus were born in Glasgow and remain proud of their Scottish ancestry.

The rhythm guitarist, wife Linda and son Ross travelled to the isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides to find out more about her past, where he discussed plans for AC/DC’s future.

He confirmed they’re working on a potential follow-up to 2008′s Black Ice. But he warned fans are in for a longer wait than expected, after singer Brian Johnson suggested there would be new material next year.

Young explained: “You know what Brian’s like. He just says things and then walks away. It’ll be a little while – a year or two anyway.

“I’ve been doing some jamming on some song ideas but I do that all the time, as do the rest of the band. We are still working. But we had a long rest between Stiff Upper Lip and Black Ice, so I think we need a couple of years to recuperate and work on it a bit more.”

He added it’s unlikely any world tour in support of a future release will grow to the scale of the AC/DC Black Ice trek, which lasted almost two years and sold nearly five million tickets.

His son Ross pitched in: “It would probably be a bit less, a year or 18 months. That was very long last time.”

The family met with Linda’s long-lost relatives in Stornoway and its surrounding villages. They enjoyed a visit to a lifeboat launch and relaxed in the town’s only hotel, the three-room Scarista House, overlooking some of the island’s most picturesque beaches.

Young said: “I still feel very Scottish. I love coming back to Scotland. We’ve never been to the Western Isles before but it’s been really good – it’s lovely up here.”

Stornoway resident Sandi Maciver, a cousin of Linda, is also a well-known local musician. She said: “We were having dinner in the motel with Malcolm and his family. A friend of my aunt came in and joined us. He looked at Malcolm then whispered: ‘Is that the one in the band?’

“Then he saw me and said loudly, ‘Oh – is that Sandie Maciver?’

“Poor Malcolm Young… I was recognised before him! It could only happen in Harris.”

If you dig the AC/DC era with Bon Scott, then you need to check out the new record by '77 called High Decibels.

I decided to check it out after reading about it in Classic Rock magazine and I think it is the best "AC/DC album" since Back In Black. I used to think Rhino Bucket made the best AC/DC albums in the past 20 years but this might be even better. The guitar tone (& playing) especially remind me of Angus circa the Let There Be Rock album. The singer sounds so much like Bon it is spooky; I can almost hear him sneering & I keep waiting for him go "Nanoo Nanoo" at the end of one of the songs. Great stuff.

Not to threadcrap on a real AC/DC thread but I gotta try to spread the word about these guys since I know I myself would love hearing about these guys if I didn't already know about 'em. Looks like they've have at least one other record out & I gotta check that one out too!

I'll check that out, slipkid. Airbourne is also similar, and I still think the first Jet album (at least half of it, anyway) is the best AC/DC-ish album of the last decade.

I'll buy anything new AC/DC releases anytime. Loved Stiff Upper Lip and Black Ice.

I'm a big AC/DC fan too. I loved SUL, but am lukewarm on Black Ice.

I have the Airbourne album, it is pretty good. Really great to see new bands coming up doing music like this.

If you haven't checked out Rhino Bucket already, their first record is their best IMO (killer songs) but I like most of their stuff.

This '77 record is really blowing me away. Some of the songs are almost same chord progressions as old AC/DC songs (Bad Boy Boogie for one), the singer is amazing, and the lead playing is blowing my mind, closest to Angus I have ever heard. Maybe part of their mojo is that like the real thing this band has 2 brothers in it, the rhythm & lead players! The rhythm gtrist is also the singer btw. I don't know much about these guys other than I think they are from Finland? Or maybe it is Spain?? I gotta borrow last month's CR again from a friend and reread the article about them (or see if it is on-line anywhere).

I just ordered '77's first album. Can't get this latest one out of the player though. Think I have listened to it 6-7 times in 2 days already which is rare for me. This and the new Europe album are on heavy rotation in my house. It's great to get such a buzz off new music. I envy the people that felt this way about the new VH record, calling it the greatest rock record in 20 years or whatever. I didn't get that VH buzz myself but I'm getting that buzz off these albums.

AC/DC’s Cliff Williams Gives Update on Next Album
by Sterling Whitaker

AC/DC haven’t exactly been the hardest-working band in show business over the last few decades. The legendary Aussie rockers have only released three albums since 1990, and their last album was ‘Black Ice’ in 2008. But in a new interview, bassist Cliff Williams says guitarists Angus Young and his brother Malcolm have been working on some new material — though he stops short of promising a timetable for a new album.

“[There is] nothing in the works right now [as far as recording],” Williams tells BackstageAxxess (quote via Loudwire). “We’re still getting over the last tour, so we’re just hanging out and doing stuff. The guys are writing material and when they’ve got some stuff together, they’ll give us a holler.”

The bass players adds, “[Angus and Malcolm] get a bunch of ideas together. Some are more together than others — and then we’ll all hit the studio or a little rehearsal room and we’ll kick it around with a producer. And then we get in a studio and record, and that’s kind of how it runs. The guys, I’m sure, are putting their time in [writing material for the new album] — Malcolm and Angus — but they’re not ready for [the rest of the band to get involved] yet.”

Still, it’s a step forward from last June, when Angus Young put the kibosh on rumors of a new album after singer Brian Johnson dropped a hint that one might be in the works.

AC/DC Heading Into the Studio This Spring

It looks like 2014 will be a big year for AC/DC. In an interview with a Florida radio station on Friday, frontman Brian Johnson revealed that the band is about to begin recording new music, as well as planning a special 40th anniversary tour.

"Well, you’ll be the first one to know," Johnson told 98.7 the Gater's Andy Preston (as Ultimate Classic Rock reports). "Really, because we’ve been denying anything, 'cause we weren’t sure…But I think we’ll be going into the studio in May in Vancouver. Which means, we should be getting ready.

If it is indeed a new album Johnson is talking about, it would mark AC/DC's first new studio record since 2008's Black Ice. Bassist Cliff Williams had revealed last spring that Angus Young and Malcolm Young were at work on new songs but hadn't yet set a timetable.

Johnson also told the station that the band were planning a special tour to celebrate their 40th anniversary. "It’s been 40 years of the band’s existence," he continued. "So I think we’re gonna try to do 40 gigs, 40 shows, to thank the fans for their undying loyalty. I mean, honestly, our fans are just the best in the world, and we appreciate every one of them. So, like I said, we’ll have to go out, even though we’re getting a bit long in the tooth. You know what?! It’s been four years [since we last went out on the road], and I’m really looking forward to it."

AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson has revealed the band has completed work on the follow-up to Black Ice.

The Geordie hero returned to his hometown of Newcastle today to pick up his Doctorate in Music from the city’s Northumbria University.

And he confirmed AC/DC’s new album is done and dusted following a series of quickfire recording sessions in Vancouver.

The 66-year-old says: “It was brilliant over there. We’re done. I’m very excited and we’ve got some great songs.”

But Johnson admitted the continued absence of founder member Malcolm Young had cast a shadow over the band’s latest stint in the studio.

He adds: “We miss Malcolm obviously. He’s a fighter. He’s in hospital but he’s a fighter. We’ve got our fingers crossed that he’ll get strong again.

“Stevie, Malcolm’s nephew, was magnificent, but when you’re recording with this thing hanging over you and your work mate isn’t well, it’s difficult.

“But I’m sure he was rooting for us. He’s such a strong man. He’s a small guy but he’s very strong. He’s proud and he’s very private so we can’t say too much. But fingers crossed he’ll be back.”

Johnson admitted the band had discussed a number of album titles with the new release due to hit stores later this year or early 2015.

And he added: “I wanted to call the album Man Down. But it’s a bit negative and it was probably just straight from the heart. I like that.”

Johnson received his honorary degree from Northumbria University’s vice chancellor Prof Andrew Wathey, who says: “Brian has been an inspiration to the people of the North East and rock fans the world over.

“His ambition, dedication and talent is second to none. His passion for excellence has propelled the boy from Dunston to the top of the rock world.”

AC/DC are readying a world tour with Johnson hinting that the band will play UK dates at Wembley Stadium and Glasgow's Hampden Park next summer.

New album out Dec. 2 and titled Rock Or Bust!

From antimusic.com:

AC/DC have revealed that Columbia Records will be releasing their new studio album, entitled "Rock or Bust," on December 2nd and fans will be getting a little taste on TV.

Turner Sports have announced that they will be previewing the song "Play Ball" on TBS during the Major League Baseball Postseason, beginning on September 27th, when they will be exclusively covering the American League Postseason. The ad will also air on other Turner stations.

The album marks the first time in 41 years that the band has recorded without cofounder Malcolm Young, who had to take a break from the band due to illness.

In his place, the band recruited Malcolm and Angus Young's nephew Stevie Young to record rhythm guitar on the new album and he will also be performing on the upcoming tour in support of the release.

AC/DC recorded the album this past spring in Vancouver, BC with producer Brendan O'Brien and mixer Mike Fraser.

(hennemusic) AC/DC have issued the first photo of their new lineup without founding member Malcolm Young who left the group for health reasons but the photo is also missing another member of the band.

The image features singer Brian Johnson, guitarists Angus and Stevie Young, and bassist Cliff Williams … noticeably absent is drummer Phil Rudd.

The band recently used Bob Richards (Shogun, Adrian Smith Band) to handle drum duties for the filming of a pair of videos in London earlier this month, with Johnson telling fans that Rudd had been called away at the last minute to deal with a family emergency.

AC/DC were shooting clips for the title track to their forthcoming album, "Rock Or Bust", as well as the project's lead single, "Play Ball." Due December 2, "Rock Or Bust" is the Australian band's first album since 2008's "Black Ice."

AC/DC recorded the project at Vancouver's Warehouse Studio with producer Brendan O'Brien (Aerosmith, Pearl Jam) and engineer Mike Fraser.

Angus and Malcolm's nephew, Stevie, handled rhythm guitar on the album after Malcolm stepped away from the group to deal with ongoing health issues related to dementia, according to his family; he is now officially retired from AC/DC.
