Texas musician Alejandro Escovedo is a hard musician to pin down stylistically. His career, spanning 40 years, includes '70 punk (the Nuns) and '80s cowpunk (the True Believers), as well several acclaimed solo recordings.

"I'm in Love With Everything," premiering at USA TODAY, introduces a side-project supergroup called the Fauntleroys, comprised of Escovedo; Ivan Julian, a founding guitarist of Richard Hell and the Voidoids; Chicago bandleader Nicholas Tremulis; and Linda Pitmon, drummer for Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3 and the Baseball Project.

"I think it's a great introduction," says Escovedo, 63. "It' s a song that features all of us and what we do. As you get deeper into the record, there's some really great stuff."

"I'm in Love With Everything" will appear on the group's EP, Below the Pink Pony, will be released Sept. 16 on Nashville-based Plowboy Records.

Escovedo credits the group's formation to Tremulis, a longtime mutual friend of the other three musicians. "We've done sporadic things together here and there," Escovedo says. "We've talked about playing together and recording something off the cuff to see what happened."

Escovedo brought the Fauntleroys project to Plowboy Records after recording a track with country great Bobby Bare for Bare's 2012 Plowboy album Darker Than Light. Escovedo and Plowboy co-founder Cheetah Chrome, who played guitar for '70s punk band the Dead Boys, ran in the same New York City circles during the '70s, Escovedo says. "Cheetah has great ears, and he's a sweet guy," Escovedo says. "It seemed like a cool place to go together."

Escovedo calls the Fauntleroys "one of those great rock 'n' roll bands" and foresees a future for the group beyond Below the Pink Pony.

"It's a mystery," he says. "You never know which way this band is going to turn, especially on stage. We each bring our own idiosyncratic approach to the music, and it seems to work."
