Player's new album is an exciting event in the West Coast AOR music scene. The band scored a #1 Billboard hit in 1978 with the timeless song "Baby Come Back". The band released 4 albums before disbanding in 1982. A reunion happened in 1997, but the band started performing again on a regular basis in 2003 with original members Peter Beckett (highly rated songwriter for Heart, Olivia Newton-John, Kenny Rogers, The Temptations, Poco, Janet Jackson, The Commodores, Cliff Richards, Survivor and Grace Slick, among others) on guitar and vocals and Ronn Moss (who became a very well known actor in the soap opera "The Bold and The Beautiful") on bass and vocals. The new album is full of lush and melodic songs which range from the rocking approach of "Man on Fire" to the more melodic and mature approach of "My Addiction" and the new video / single "I Will".

They should re-title this album Baby Don't Come Back.

With Peter Beckett involved, I will at least give this one a chance. He was part of an all-star band event I saw last summer with Gary Wright, Walter Egan and a few others. His voice was still quite good. And I sure loved the "Player" and "Danger Zone" albums back in the day. I wonder if J.C. Crowley is still writing and/or performing? the first album and danger zone were really good and i wish they'd release/remaster them again seperately. after that it was hit and miss. a friend of mine knows peter becket fairly well and he said they were working on some new stuff so i guess this is it. that song is not bad but i'd have to hear the rest of the album before i committed.

Peter Beckett recorded one of my favorite ballads from the '80s. "Jenny" appeared on the soundtrack to "Where The Boys Are '84", which has never been released on CD.
