New Spiritualized album in 2010?

Spiritualized's Jason Pierce has revealed that the band could release a new album next year.

A follow-up to 2008's 'Songs in A&E', the album is said to have been inspired by the reissue of the band's 1997 album 'Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space'.

"I am making a record," Jason Pierce told The Quietus. "It's very weird to lay out something you did 12 years ago ['Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space'] in all its complexity and then get inside it enough to be able to play it live, and not have that get into some of the newer stuff we're doing." He added.

Revealing the album would be released "When it's done" he did say it would be "hopefully next year" that a new album would be released.

"It's early days. We've put down some great, great songs, I think what [listening to] Ladies And Gentlemen [We Are Floating In Space ] has done is raised the bar in a different way." He explained.

"Rather than just copying the sonics of that record and saying 'How did we used to do it?' or 'We used to do it like this', it's raised the bar, and I think that's good." He added.

Spiritualized's Jason Pierce 'not interested' in reforming Spaceman 3

Spiritualized's Jason Pierce has quashed rumours that his former band Spaceman 3 are set to reunite.

Pierce explained that relations between him and Peter Kember, who he co-founded the band with in 1982, are still hostile following their 1991 split. Pierce also told The Sun that he'd recently been asked to reform the band to play an ATP festival, an offer which he said he "wasn't interested" in pursuing.

"The split was so acrimonious and my view of him hasn't changed," Pierce explained, adding: "No, I've not mellowed about him."

He went on to reveal more details of the new Spiritualized album, which could be released in 2010, saying: "We're recording at the moment. I want to say it will be out next year but I don't know yet. But it sounds great, really great."

Jason Pierce 'living in the studio' to record new Spiritualized album

Jason Pierce has said he’s currently “living in the studio” working on the next Spiritualized album.

Speaking at Reykjavik’s Iceland Inspires Festival, he also told NME that the follow-up to 2008's 'Songs In A&E', due next year, would contain more pop songs.

“I always shy away from anything I write that sounds like a pop song, things like 'Soul On Fire' or 'Stop Your Crying',” he explained. “This time I’m embracing songs like that and seeing what happens. I’m not fighting it anymore. I’m in the middle of the album now, so it’s kind of weird doing any shows at the moment. I’m so focused on it. I get really single-minded, so I’m basically living on my own in the studio. I’ve got a rough timeline, it’ll be out next year.”

He added the album’s new sound was partly inspired by the 'Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space' shows he staged last year, which saw Pierce and his band play the 1997 classic in its entirety.

“The shows didn’t change my opinion of the record, it’s still a great album, but it was a dream to play it all live and go through those songs again. Normally when you tour people want new stuff," he explained. "It was weird to have that album sitting around for 13 years and then go and do it, and all of the audience brought their own thing to it."

Spiritualized reveal new album details and extend March tour

Spiritualized have announced the tracklisting and release date of their new studio album 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light', along with adding more dates to their rescheduled UK and Ireland tour.

The band will put out the record, the follow-up to 2008's 'Songs In A&E', on March 19 through the Double Six label.

Speaking about the influences the 10-track album will encompass, frontman J Spaceman – otherwise known as Jason Pierce – namechecked Dennis and Brian Wilson, along with Chuck Berry and jazzman Peter Brötzmann.

The album, which will be the band's seventh, was recorded over the past two years at studios in Wales, Los Angeles and Reykjavik.

Spiritualized delay release of new album 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light'

Spiritualized have announced that the release of their forthcoming new album 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light' has been delayed.

The band originally said that the new LP, which will be their seventh studio effort and the follow-up to 2008's 'Songs In A&E', would be released on March 19 this year, but in an interview with Spin, singer Jason Pierce revealed that the album will be out several weeks later than planned.

Pierce also admitted that he had sent out unfinished copies of the album for reviewers to listen to, stating: "I had the rather foolish idea last November that I could deliver the record that's been sent out and keep working on the real version. I'd meet the delivery date they need for reviews and things like that and nobody would be any the wiser that I'd be carrying on the mixing."

When asked if he was concerned that people would spot the differences between the two versions of the record, however, he replied:

The track is taken from the band's forthcoming new album 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light', which was originally scheduled for release on March 19 but was pushed back after frontman Jason Pierce failed to meet the original deadline and will now be out on April 16 in the UK (April 10 in the US).

Speaking about the delay, Pierce said: "I had the rather foolish idea last November that I could deliver the record that's been sent out and keep working on the real version. I'd meet the delivery date they need for reviews and things like that and nobody would be any the wiser that I'd be carrying on the mixing."

The album will also feature a cameo from Pierce's 11-year-old daughter Poppy on the song 'So Long You Pretty Thing'. She penned the opening verse of the track and will also contribute vocals.
