Amy began her career at the Hotel Café, and while living in Los Angeles, had a good deal of success landing her songs on television and in movies. She moved to Texas in 2005, where she found her home among a group of Austin musicians, including the legendary rocker and troubadour, Alejandro Escovedo. Amy began to tour extensively with his band, and listening to her perform nightly left Alejandro sufficiently impressed enough to produce her 2010 record, Let The Light In (his first and only producing credit to date).

After touring Let The Light In, Amy began to write the songs on Summer Skin in 2011. Her finest songwriting to date is likely the result of the education she received on the road for a couple of years, playing rock clubs and theatres with Escovedo, the Hearless Bastards, and other artists.

Summer Skin was produced by Craig Street, whose long list of credits includes Norah Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Joe Henry & k.d. Lang, and was recorded in LA with an all-star band, featuring David Garza (guitar), Meshell Ndegeocello (bass), Chris Bruce (guitar) and Jonathan Wilson (drums). Robert Plant sings harmony with Cook on the beautiful "It's Gonna Rain", and joins Patty Griffin on the moody "Airplane Driver". Ben Kweller co-wrote and sings back up on the pop rocker "Getting To You". This record represents a quantum leap for Amy her evolution as a songwriter, a musician and an artist.

On August 28th, Amy Cook will release Summer Skin, her follow-up to 2010's Let The Light In, on Roothouse Records. The album features guest appearances by such stars as Patti Griffin, Ben Kweller and Robert Plant. However, according to Cook, the duet with the Led Zeppelin frontman wasn't exactly planned.

"Robert Plant had come to the studio with Patty [Griffin] and was sitting next to me in the control room and he said, 'Do you mind if I give it a go?'" Cook tells Rolling Stone. "I did not mind. He sang it a couple of times and it was perfect."

Plant's harmony vocals appear on "It's Gonna Rain," a smoky ballad that makes ample use of the familiar "Stand by Me" chord progression. Cook describes it as a "song of hope," explaining, "'It's Gonna Rain' is a song I wrote for a friend who had had a rough couple of years."

Listen to "It's Gonna Rain" here, and check out Cook's August tour dates below.

8/15 Philadelphia, PA – Tin Angel
8/16 New York, NY – City Winery
8/17 Annapolis, MD – Ramshead on Stage
8/18 Vienna, VA – Jammin' Java
8/28 Austin, TX – Victory Grill
8/31 Austin, TX – Waterloo Records
