GLEN CAMPBELL RETURNS TO CAPITOL RECORDS FOR HIS DYNAMIC NEW
STUDIO ALBUM, MEET GLEN CAMPBELL

New Album to be Released August 19; Campbell to Premiere Select Songs at
Stagecoach Festival on Friday, May 2

Hollywood, California – April 29, 2008 – In a legendary music career that spans more
than five decades, Glen Campbell has achieved chart-topping, platinum-selling pop and
country success singing everyday tales of life, love, work and heartache. For Meet Glen
Campbell, his inspired, dynamic new studio album, the music icon has returned to his
longtime label home, Capitol Records. Meet Glen Campbell will be released on August
19 on CD, limited edition vinyl and digitally.

The songs on the album all strike a personal and musical chord with Campbell. He has
reinterpreted and re-imagined both older and contemporary songs with his own
signature vocal and guitar arrangements. A true musician’s musician, Campbell’s distinct
guitar playing, along with the clarity and emotion of his powerful vocal performance,
come together to give new life to the songs he selected for Meet Glen Campbell.

The influential singer, guitarist and stylist, who has long made others’ songs his own, is
doing it again, recording high-spirited, emotionally charged versions of tracks that have
personally moved and inspired him. Campbell’s intimate performances convey an
autobiographical and deeply personal connection to the album’s songs, which include
Travis’ “Sing,” Tom Petty’s “Angel Dream” and “Walls,” The Replacements’ “Sadly
Beautiful,” U2’s “All I Want Is You,” The Velvet Underground’s “Jesus,” and Jackson
Browne’s “These Days,” among others.

“I really like all of the songs and I had a great time recording them. While I didn’t write
these songs, this sounds like a Glen Campbell album, which is important to me,” says
Glen Campbell.

A musician at heart, Campbell has maintained a sense of truth, respect and authenticity
throughout his career. The songs on his new album were written by others, but become
undeniably Campbell’s own as he has personally styled them for the new album. Titled
evocatively by design, the album is certain to surprise and delight longtime fans and turn
many new ears to the music icon’s legendary career. Meet Glen Campbell welcomes
discovery and re-discovery of the legend and his music.

Recorded in March and April at The Recording Studio and Jim Henson Studios in Los
Angeles, Meet Glen Campbell is produced by Julian Raymond (Rosanne Cash, Fastball,
Shawn Mullins, Wallflowers) with engineer/co-producer Howard Willing. The album
features musical contributions by Campbell contemporaries as well as younger rock and
alt-country artists who joined him in the studio, including Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander,
Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. and Jason Falkner from Jellyfish, and Chris Chaney from
Jane’s Addiction. Campbell’s sons and daughters, who regularly perform with their
father, recorded backing vocals for the tracks, providing the album’s warm family tone.
Conceived by Julian Raymond to honor Campbell’s musical legacy while showcasing his
creative versatility and vitality, Meet Glen Campbell has been long in the making since
its creative inception to the recent studio sessions. Says Raymond of the new album,
“I’ve been listening to Glen since I was nine years old, so making this record is an honor
and a dream come true. I am incredibly proud of this project.”

Meet Glen Campbell begins an exciting new chapter in the 50-year career of one of
America’s most beloved musical icons. This Friday, May 2, during his set at the
Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California, Campbell will be joined onstage by
special guests to premiere select songs from his new album.

Glen sounds in fine voice. I hope this does well for him. I'll give it a shot.

I'm really looking forward to this album. It's been a long time since we've had a new album from Glen, and this sounds like a solid effort with some very intriguing song choices. I don't think this is necessarily "YACA"; perhaps it should be called "Not Just ACA" (though I guess it's still premature to say with certainty). :crossfingers:

I agree. Glen's not known for being a songwriter, so in my mind, this isn't any different from the Wichita Lineman or Galveston albums. Just trade Jimmy Webb, Buffy Ste. Marie and Sonny Bono for Billy Joe Armstrong, Petty/Campbell and Bono/Edge.

I just received an advance copy of Glen's new CD in the mail today and all I can say is WOW !! It is really great !

It's really cool hearing Glen singing "hip" songs like these ! And he hasn't sounded this good vocally in ages !

I've been a GC fan since 1968. I was 7 back then -- and I saw Glen in concert the following year at the Garden State Arts Center here in New Jersey back in 1969 - he was there the entire week and his "Live" 2LP set came from the 7/4/69 show. It was was my first concert and I still can remember it pretty vividly. (I was at one of the shows that week but not the one that was recorded).

I never thought that I'd get to hear another great album from Glen, but I was wrong. This is great !

Really, REALLY looking forward to this. I've had his version of "Sing" stuck in my head for weeks.

Check out the new website for the album -- featuring Capitol's EPK for "Meet Glen Campbell" along with the tracks "Sing", "Angel Dream", and "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)".

Got this one the other day.

Great stuff.

The only track I find less than stellar is "Good Riddance (time of your life)", otherwise this is a very solid effort.

Glen Campbell's voice is better than ever.

Walmart.com is apparently offering an exclusive ($14.88 + s/h) of this album, with 5 bonus "remixes" of Glen's sixties/seventies hits. WIll report back when the CD arrives.

I liked the song selection and Glen's voice was great. The strings were overpowering, though. I felt Glen got buried in the sound. And sometimes, the orchestration didn't even seem to be for the same song Glen and band were playing. I wish it had been basic arrangements.

Maybe he'll take a lesson from Neil Young and re-release it in a stripped down version in a few months. :-)

Got my copy today, I like it alot. In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict multiple Grammy nominations for next year's awards. It'll be the kind of comeback story Grammy voters just love.

I like this quite a bit. Campbell does a good job putting himself into all of the songs.

But I have to agree with Neal about the strings. They tend to make every song sound a little like Rhinestone Cowboy. And this sure is mastered loud.

I agree with Jimbo. This is about as strong a comeback as Roy Orbison's "Mystery Girl" was back in '88. It's all I've listened to for the last two days. Really quite good. Just enough vintage 1960s Glen strings and tremelo guitar to keep you coming back for more. The only thing that kinda bugs me is the amount of compression and limiters they used on his voice. Probably just for cosmetic purposes (he's 72 years old), so it's pretty easily forgiven. He still has strength and energy in his voice. Glad I bought it.

The CD IS mastered WAY too loud - agreed. I just picked up the vinyl version and it sounds a little bit better - but not a lot better - still mastered way too loud.

Best Buy had the CD for $14.99 -- someone in a previous post had asked the price. I bought the vinyl for $23.99 (ouch) in a great store called Vintage Vinyl in Woodbridge, NJ.

I also noticed that some of the tracks sound like they've been tweaked a bit from the promo copy that I have - I notice a bit of instrumentation standing out a bit more on the "official" release. Maybe they went back and remixed some of the tracks.

The Walmart version on CD has 5 bonus tracks - all remixed versions of Glen's biggest solo hits. The remixes sound great !

I still think that "Times Like These" is the best track on the album - I would never guess this was a Foo Fighters' song. In a different "radio era" I think this would have easily gone Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. It just sounds so damn fresh and great - I can't get enough of it. Sounds to me like Jellyfish is doing background vocals on it.

I really can't stop playing this album -- I was always a big Glen Campbell fan and this album is a fantastic comeback for him. I just hope that enough people out there find out about it and buy it. This album deserves to be a hit.

P.S. The vinyl comes with a code for a free full album download with a bonus track.

Rich,
I've already got the original versions of the bonus five remixed tracks on the Wal-Mart version. Is there a distinct difference between the remixes and the originals? In your opinion, is it worth several bucks more for this exclusive version? I'm just trying figure out what to do, as I'll be buying the album very soon from somewhere. (In fact, I can't wait much longer!) Thanks.

Jim

Pick up the Walmart version - it's the same price that Best Buy is selling it for and you get the bonus tracks.

Some info on the bonus tracks from Walmart's website :

To finish out this collection, five of Campbell's biggest hits -- starting with 1968's Grammy Award-winning "Gentle On My Mind" -- have been remixed and are included here. The songs have been stripped of the overwrought production that dated them, and it's a fantastic reinterpretation of Campbell's talent. By the time he wraps it up with "Rhinestone Cowboy," which is the most powerful of the remixes, Campbell has us all wanting to sign up for his star-spangled rodeo.

Loving the Glen album...while I was initially disappointed that the rumored new album with Jimmy Webb hasn't panned out yet, MEET GLEN CAMPBELL has been one of the most pleasant surprises of '08! As for the Walmart bonus tracks, they do sound good, but the remixes aren't radically different...that said, a couple of the songs have longer fades than on the original versions, so for completists, these could be essential. (And the disc, at under 10 bucks in Walmart stores, is a real bargain!)
