From antimusic.com: UFO has set a February 28th North American release date for their new studio album, Seven Deadly. The album will be released as a limited edition digipak (incl. 2 bonus tracks), a Double Gatefold LP with printed innersleeves and coloured vinyl, standard edition and download. We were sent these details: What is this bold thesis based on - in view of the countless classics the band has produced throughout its history? Not only on the fact that UFO have that perfect mix of talent, charisma and experience, but also on each individual band member, who currently all seem to be bursting with a zest for action and a wealth of ideas. Seven Deadly is an atmospherically dense fabric consisting of classy guitars, tight rock grooves and vocals which are unique to UFO. So it's no wonder that sound engineer Tommy Newton, in whose Area 51 studio in Celle, Germany, the new tracks were recorded, commented: "I've never heard a better Phil Mogg!" The UFO frontman's thoroughly impressive vocal performance goes hand in hand with the awesome compositions on Seven Deadly. The classic rock of 'Burn Your House Down' features all the important UFO strengths, 'Going Down To Mojotown' sees the musicians sound tougher than ever, and last but not least 'Wonderland' features a pointed reference to UFO's early days. 'Angel Station' sees the band prove how classic rock music is complemented perfectly with epic elements, while 'Fight Night' is an excellent track to be performed in a live context. There's no need to draw attention to the technical skills of original UFO members Paul Raymond and Andy Parker, their music sounding inspired and faultless at the same time. Having said that, Vinnie Moore's exceptional guitar style deserves to be explicitly mentioned as well. The American musician not only lends the songs expression and power with his haunting licks and dynamic riffs, but also contributes solos on Seven Deadly which can only be described as absolute world class. Am curious what this will be like but am not optimistic. Phil Mogg is great but without Pete Way, I dunno, it is like the songs are just missing that magic ingredient. I don't think Pete was even on the last album at all, but I could be wrong.
Thought the first one with Vinnie was OK but not great, but I can't find anything I like about the last 2 albums. The last decent UFO album to me is Walk on Water from '95. Vinnie doesn't work for me in UFO for some reason....I wish Schenker would go back, although I don't like the last 2 with Schenker very much either (Sharks or Covenant).

Vinnie Moore is an amazing player, but to me doesn't sound quite right with UFO. He has an irritating, squealy sound and plays in much more of a Fusion/Prog metal style. However, they're still a great live band but not the same. I didn't like the last 2 albums either. As for Pete-very mysterious. He had a liver problem (no shocker there) and then disappeared. No mention of him. Just phantom bass players in the studio and on tour. Peter Pickel was on The Visitor no idea who will be on this one. Walk On Water is one of the best albums of the 90's by any band-what a killer recording that was. Covenant was OK but dull, and Sharks I liked much better, but neither were close to Walk On Water. I'll probably get this new one at some point used as they're still one of my favorites, but I'm not overly excited at all. I'd love Schenker back too and so would the fans, but the drama that would bring!

What do you guys think of the 2 Mogg/Way albums from the late 90's? I just got them (finally) but haven't played them yet. I know Martin Popoff gave "Chocolate Box" a perfect score of 10 in one of his books.

IMO Walk On Water is UFO at their best , I think it's the best they ever did . I do like Covenant and Sharks too although they are alot lower on the UFO w/ Schenker totem pole . The 2 Mogg / Way albums are excellent , I was just listening to Chocolate Box this past weekend . The Mogg album $ign Of Four is another good one .

I think we may have been discussing those up here at some point in a different UFO-related thread, couple months ago maybe (?). Both have some good songs but the 2nd one with Jeff Kollman on guitar is much better IMO. Kollman nails that Schenker-like type of old school heavy rock playing, whereas the guy on the first one (George Bellas) is too shreddy for the songs. $ign of 4 is killer, as Don57 mentioned. Kollman is the guitarist in that band too. Walk On Water has become my favorite UFO record ever, which is kind of weird to me. I thought nothing could top the first round of records with Schenker. Force It used to be my favorite. Being the huge fan that I am I will have to get the new UFO but I'm not expecting much. Could be a pleasant surprise. Which reminds me, I thought the new Schenker was going to suck after seeing the original video for one of the songs, but turns out I was wrong, I actually like it.

UFO’s Phil Mogg hopes bassist Pete Way will return to the fold – and if he doesn’t, the frontman hopes his old friend will fight his through his health issues. Way has been suffering from the effects of addiction issues for several years – but on the few occasions he manages to get on stage, close friends say he can still deliver the goods. That’s enough for Mogg to keep believing. And now his band has replaced some newer faces with members of the old guard, he’s hoping that Way can return at some point. The singer tells Relix.com: “We’re hanging on hope. I don’t know whether or not he will be able to return. I see him down the road here. There’s a small studio on the beachfront and he’s doing something with a guy from the Damned. “But every time I say, ‘Hey, how’s Pete doing?’ I get a nonplussed reply like, ‘Well, he seems okay, blah blah blah.’ “Whether or not he rejoins the band, I’m hoping he pulls back from the abyss.” Drummer Andy Parker rejoined the band six years ago, helping bring back their original vibe, and they’re riding high with positive reaction to latest album Seven Deadly. Mogg says: “We’ve been together for so long, it feels comfortable knowing what drama’s going to come next. I’ve known Andy and Pete since the beginning of time, as it were, so if any drama’s going to happen, I know exactly what it’s going to be.” And if there’s any doubt about UFO’s influence after all these years, it has to be explained by Iron Maiden’s regular live use of Doctor Doctor as their intro tape. Mogg reflects: “I think Pete’s matey-matey with Steve Harris. I think there was a slight bit of influence since we were the band that was around. It’s nice considering they’re bigger than us now – bastards!”
