I have loved these guys since they debuted in the mid-80's and I had no idea the original lineup was back and making a new album, nor did I know drummer Alan Jackman had been battling cancer. He must be well because his drumming is great on the new song and John Spinks' guitar playing kills. And how bassist'vocalist Tony Lewis can still sound like this is baffling to me. But, holy crap is the new song "Baby I'm Crazy" amazing. They've got their full Led Zep mode going on here-this song kicks mucho asso! Please, give this a listen, it really rocks! It will start playing as soon as you go to the website-I tell you, it sounds like The Outfield meets Led Zeppelin!
From Anti-Music.com: Our friend Ross CAT from Nightlife Online Magazine recently caught up with Tony Lewis of the 80s hitmakers The Outfield. Here is a little of that exchange. Ross CAT - Seems we've caught up with you at a great time as The Outfield is in the midst of creating some highly anticipated new music while celebrating the glory days of the "Play Deep" album all at once.
Tony Lewis - Well we certainly hope it's going to be as great a record; as you already mentioned we are extremely pleased to have Alan Jackman back playing with us once again on drums. Alan is actually in the studio as we speak laying down the drum tracks. It's really a great vibe being back in the studio with both John & Alan; we really hope to capture the spirit of the bands beginnings with these new songs.
Ross CAT - Do you feel John's battle with cancer may have inspired this reunion of the original band members?
Tony Lewis - I really don't think it was John's illness that lead us here; obviously he sees life through different eyes after that humbling experience. It was after a reunion tour back in 2000 that we just kind of looked at what's happening in the music scene from bands from our era. There are very few bands out touring right now with their original line-ups in tact for whatever reasons. The thought process was since we are all still here & close friends if this is going to be our last record we can at least give to the fans through the same organic process that gave us "Play Deep" new songs we can be proud of. - more on this story

It would burn up the radio charts-but of course, it's not the new Disturbed song, so it will get no airplay.

This as-yet-untitled album is now tentatively scheduled for a Spring 2011 release. You can hear a snippet of the new song "California Song" by visiting the band's official website.

For those of you that like The Outfield. The album Replay was released on Itunes and Amazon MP3 a while back, but now if you want a physical CD, CDBABY.com has a supply selling for 12.97 with limited autographed copies selling for 24.97. The autographed copies are said to be less than 100 total from what I read on theoutfield.com

They say "backordered" so I'll give it thru the holidays and if not restocked then I'll go for the unsigned. Rick A. PS Love these guys, the recent "Playlist" comp includes a track from the new album and it belongs on a Greatest Hits.
