Hello Everyone,
Sorry its been so long but don’t worry we’re still alive and well, and busy….
Since the last time we spoke we have had our heads buried in the studio/bedroom writing and demoing new songs at home for the third album. Everything has been going really well and we’ve got around 30 songs done and demo’d.
Our next step will be to get in the studio proper and get the actual recordings done which we start doing the beginning of August at Paul Weller’s studio, which he’s been kind enough to give us the use of…… (it’s nice to have friends who have there own studio ain’t it). Over the next couple of months we’ll be posting up demos/photos and bits of the recordings for you all to have a listen to and would love to know what you all think, providing its only good stuff!!
We hope to have the album finished realistically by the end of the year, but there’s talk of a small tour around October time, just to stop the rust setting in and to have a catch up with everyone. There will also be a few small acoustic gigs dotted around to test some of the new stuff out, as well as all the HITS!!!
We hope everybody’s well and look forward to getting out and seeing everyone soon.

Statement from Rob
There have been a few naughty rumours flying around regarding the band lately and people seem to be becoming highly irrational so lets set things straight! A few things were done and said recently on our Facebook page that maybe shouldn’t have been and lets say we’ve learnt our lesson about unleashing the power of the internet but the truth is that after all meeting up together earlier this week it was decided that the best thing for The Rifles would be for me and Grant to leave the band. This has nothing to do with any bad blood or feelings between us but financially it just wasn’t going to work out and it came down to doing what is best for the band rather than putting any personal ambitions first but don’t fret as it isn’t the end of The Rifles by a long way as Joel and Luke will continue on with all the tour dates and forthcoming album as planned, though things will be slightly different in the rhythm department! Me and Grant would like to thank everyone who has support us along the way and its not as if we aren’t going to be at any Rifles gig so you can buy us some leaving beers! We had an amazing time and i’m sure there are more to come for us and the band, to whom we wish all the best. I hope this clears everything up and we can all move on, it also means you can stop asking me and Grant for guest list/ c.d’s, so piss off and buy your own!

The Rifles' website has announced that the band's new bassist is Lee "Boy" Burgess and the new drummer is Kenny Shinn, both old friends of Luke and Joel. Also, here's an acoustic demo of the new song "Cry Baby":

Jury's out... it's catchy, but... I dunno... so sweet and safe.
Yeh ... "Tangled Up In Love" almost sounds like The Style Council ... those other two songs are very good. Maybe a bit overproduced. (And is that a fifth Rifle pictured there?)
Not sure about the vocals. Why is Luke so prominent? There are more voices but it actually strikes me as less powerful than when Joel takes the lead by himself.
The album sounds like it's going to some weird places, but I'm in.
At any rate, Freedom Run is being released domestically by Nettwerk on October 11th, and I've added pre-order details added to the first post.

Big murky review from me for this album. I LOVE some of the songs, the basics are cracking - Stuff like 'Dreamer' sounds like the fannies doing 'Aint that enough'... There's some proper stand out moments, musically.
But the singing on some of it. Fucking hell. WTF?!?
The Rifles are one of those bands who've always stood out for me on the basis of they sounded distinct. What ever anyone else thought of that - they sounded like a London band, London guitars, London vocals...
Parts of this album descend into a genuine quasi-American drawl... & to go from stuff like Science In Violence to some of this stuff doesn't sound brave to me, it sounds like commercialism.
Ironic how it needs to be more Weller on the vocals, & a bit less Clinton. They'd be fine doing the yank drone, ala; Idlewild, if this was album #2,but it aint. Sort of spoils it a bit.
